Flames of War Germans
End of the first weekend and 50 points is built
So I had a goal this weekend and just after 2100 hrs tonight, I managed to reach it. I have built and cleaned my first 50 points for the slow grow league. Whilst this may not seem much to most I am very happy to have hit this goal. Probably invested in the region of 12 hours getting these all cleaned and built. The artillery crews are pretty fiddly and have some mold lines that are quite dominant so they took the most time. Having looked at the Panzergrenadiers they don’t seem as bad but with far more numbers these will be my nemesis…that’s month 3 though 🙂
So aims for the rest of the week is to get them sprayed and zenithed ready for some colours. I will use a spare German infantryman as a test mini and one of the spare bazooka skirts to test the armour colour scheme on, still trying to decide which late war scheme to do. Gotta love the FoW Colours Up book for that though, definitely loving the 1944 three-tone ambush colour scheme for my vehicles, just need to decide how I want to apply it.
Also, some things I have learned whilst putting this force together, the tanks go together great and the instructions that can be found on the FoW website with pictures and descriptions are very good. The artillery crews are a little bulkier than my other infantry and a little overscaled but have enough detail to work with. I have only blu-tac attaching the crews as I will paint them on the tops pencils before glueing them down. Dry fit is key for the artillery pieces as you can then plan which holes in the bases to plug, where you want you artillery piece to be located and how to set out your men so they look like they are all doing their jobs. When building the gun I did not glue the gun onto its stand, this allows me to pivot it both laterally and vertically. So when glueing the barrel assembly to the gun shield don’t try and force it through the gun shields gap, simply elevate it up and then down once it in position. If you’re not sure what I mean message me and I will do a couple of photos and add them here in the projects.
Well, time for a brew and then I need to start ironing…sigh.
Have a great week everyone!
Good work! I ordered an extra Panzer IV to give myself less infantry to paint for the first 50 points. Never thought of using pencils as paint holders, that’s a good idea!
@robert Yeah there is quite a bit of infantry in our boxsets. Pencils are great for 15mm and with a good pencil holder that keeps them vertical it helps make the batch painting easier.
Nice little project blog Gaz , put of increasing my Germans for a bit till I finish Yanks and Brits,
That starter box is very tempting, nice to see your resisted building the Tiggers 1st, but no doubt your saving them till you’ve perfected your paint scheme.
@bobcockayne Cheers buddy. The Tigers are really useful as September looks like it will be a tough month to get time to hobby due to work and they come to 24 points on their own. So will keep them in the bag for the month when I have the least free time.
