Kings of War Empire of Dust Army Build
Another unit built and a conscious choice for transport.
Hey guys,
Well another week has passed by and I have managed to clean and build another unit. That’s all the small guys done and just waiting on six large infantry Enslaved Guardians to finish the 1500 point force.
One of the issues I have been finding with this range is their top heavy construction. The legs used for each model are from the plastic undead range whereas the torso portion that themes them as Empire of Dust are metal. There has been no end of choice language during the priming process due to them face planting, especially with the banner bearers.
So with that being said I have magnetised everything. Got some self adhesive strips that have iron content for the minis to bond to and some of the strong, off the shelf magnets. I picked up a cheap drill for about £30 at the local DIY and some some drills bits that matched the magnets size. Really worth doing with such a high model count force. Then it’s just a process of put a little tape around the drill bit just over the depth of the magnet as a marker and get to it. Drill, check depth with a magnet on my scalpel, super glue into the hole, place in magnet by hand, press with the rear of a pencil and adjust the angle as needed then let it dry. I may need to add more magnets to get a better hold for the heavier minis but can do this any time.
Entering the final part of the army build and prep now and beginning to feel the pressure of choosing the right colour scheme.
Would be good to hear people’s thoughts on colour choice and also on Lloyd’s belief that a force shouldn’t have a uniform colour scheme.
Happy gaming everyone.
Paint them however you want! It’s your army. You can just say they were all raised from the same army that was wiped out, hence they are all the same. Personally I’m on the fence, I like a bit of variation but an army should still have a common bond to tie it all together. I’m perhaps not the best person to give advice as my KoW Skeletons are mostly done in a ghostly effect. White undercoat, green or purple wash and a gloss varnish!
Cheers for the comment @Robert I do really like the blue that Mantic used for them and may vary towards turquoise and purple to stay around the same colour. Struggling also to decide on the stonework of the movement trays and columns.
Bet your army looks great with that effect on the tabletop.
My first thought was sandy colours but it wouldn’t give much contrast with the bone, but it would work well with blue.
Agreed about the contrast, off to Google to do some research 🙂
