Perhaps we will begin.
In order to test the system, I made several “test” base on which I simply wrote the types of troops.
While I study the rules, I would like advice. Where is the best to buy 15 mm figures of different historical periods?

good luck with DBA, I look forward to seeing it come together. Here are some of my favourite miniatures, there are a lot more out there but worth checking these out.

Two others

Xystron
http://www.scotiagrendel.com/Xyston/ (EXCELLENT Punic wars range, I’ve got a lot of Thracians from here).

Museum Miniatures
https://www.museumminiatures.co.uk/chariot/sumerian.html (bit old skool, but handy for some “bits” now and again, just released an EXCELLENT Sumerian range if Bronze age is of interest)

I am looking at doing a 10mm wars of the roses army – would DBA be a good ruleset for that? Do you have a link to the rules you are testing out?

I’ve picked up the percy pigs rule set which seems pretty good.

@marktaver Not going to lie but I don’t like DBA but for a quick game with limited forces it can be an ideal stepping stone. Like 99% of historical rulesets it’s scale agnostic

@akkedul Personally I would be careful of Museum miniatures. Yes there cheap but the vary greatly in size between the ranges ,mainly due to the sculptor having problems with their eyesight

I like Essex as they sell ready made DBA packs and the figures are lovely to paint as their isn’t lots of extraneous detail on them

Old Glory aren’t bad either and available from

Heh it’s well known the sculptor can’t do horses (he’s even said so himself), but it’s useful for baggage and siege engines etc (hence about the comment about bits). Not sure if the Sumerians are by a different sculptor (they do have a very different style), but they are VERY good (not that there’s a lot of choice in 15mm Bronze age miniatures). But for the Punic wars it’s go to be Xystron (there just sooo many poses in each code), I’d probably go for Forged in Battle for the later eras. Another thing to note is that Old Glory… Read more »

The Sumerians and the new Indians are all CAD designs and look very good to me

I would say DBM is far far more nit pickery than DBA

Well ever since the demise of WRG 6th edition, put 20 Ancient wargamers in a room and you’ll find they all play “exclusively” 20 different sets of rules 😀

Although this list isn’t exhaustive and some of the manufacturers may no longer be trading this isn’t a bad start. It really depends on what armies you want to create as some manufacturers do some ranges better than others
