The Upilion Crusade
Background
I wanted to personalise this Crusade a little bit myself and to do so I selected a Crusade badge that matched my own family crest. My surname is Sheppard, which is a variant of Shepherd and is Anglo-Saxon in origin. There is no great line of kings with that family name, but pretty much every surname from Ireland and Britain has crest presumably as something to sell to American tourists.
There are a few different variations of the Sheppard / Shepard / Shepherd crest but the below is the one I settled on. Red chief on a white (or silver) shield with three axes. The axe apparently was the favoured weapon of the Anglo-Saxon Shepherds but they might morph into swords or daggers for this particular build. I’m pretty sure I have an Axe or two in my Black Templars bits box, so that might see an appearance.
Joyously, the family motto is ‘Fide et Virtute’ which translates to ‘By Faith and Valor’ although you can also translte Virtute as Virtue, Strength, or Power all of which are equally apt for a crusade of Black Templars.
For the Crusade name I hit the Latin translator and looked for Shepherd. The Pastor Crusade didn’t quite hit the spot but eventually the variation of Upilio altered to Upilion clicked.
