Kings of War Empire of Dust Army Build
Begin at the beginning
So having agreed to take part in a Tale of Gamers and doing Kings of War I had to decide what force I wished to do. For me like many others I went purely on aesthetics and having perused through the ranges available and knowing the forces my two friends had already chosen I selected the Empire of Dust.
I really like the visuals of this force and believe a large part of that is the paint job that they have. For me this shows the models potential and happens to be a really cohesive and strong visual, so much so that I will likely use a very similar one for my force.
With my army choice settled I then borrowed a friend’s reference book, Uncharted Empires, until my copy arrived which contains the army lists. Time to sit down and decide what I want my force to be made up of.
As I had stated at the beginning I really like the visuals of the Empire of Dust models, the range of options varies to none Egyptian themed models from the Undead range. I have decided to stay on theme by fielding a force purely of miniatures that stick to the theme. This helps clarify my force selection but does limit the options available without modification to the Undead range. That being said if in the future Mantic expand their themed models I will likely pick up more to augment my options.
So let’s get to the Army List
1500 points
20 Skeleton Archers 100
20 Skeleton Regiment 90
20 Skeleton Spearmen 100
20 Revenant 120
20 Mummies 170
3 Enslaved Archers 160
6 Enslaved Guard 245
3 Swarm 65
1 Balefire Catapult 100
1 Pharoah 155
1 High Priest (Heal) 135
1 Army Standard Bearer 50
1 Casket of the Damned 10
In addition due to some tournaments having a dual army list requirement of 1500 and 2000 I have planned an additional 500.
Add
1 Balefire Catapult 100
3 Enslaved Archers (add to unit) 85
3 Swarm (add to unit) 35
20 Skeleton Spearmen 100
20 Skeleton Archers 100
20 Skeleton Regiment 90
Remove
1 Casket of the Damned 10
I’ll be looking forward to seeing this come together. Quick question though, with the 2000 point list, did you not feel the urge to throw in some allies for a bit of painting variety, or are you wanting to stick with a solid single force?
I did consider it but felt that I wanted to keep the theme of the original models. That would be difficult without considerable extra cost to buy extra bodies and heads.
Looking forward to follow into this Still not sure about the rules
Are you going to use the correct number of figures on the base or use a few less get more bases out of the figures you have?
I will not be using the full number of models in all of my units as I have ordered some themed bases, movement trays and columns. I intend to place these into the units so when the army is laid out in the table it tells more of a story and has a little more impact visually.
Fingers crossed this is the case. Only time will tell.
Good Luck. I had a Multi-based EoD army, and they do look good. The problem I found with the multi-basing of this army was that the metal/plastic hybrid regiments were so damned heavy and had an annoying tendency to frequently want to crash to the floor from the table tap with alarming regularity. Have a good think about this when you decide how to base them and sincerely, best of luck , I love this army.
Have to admit I won’t be multi basing and will be magnetizing each base to a movement tray. I will be adding a 40mm base with a themed column on most of the larger units.
Will see how it goes 🙂
