Avernos' Saga saga!
Dark Age Catwalk Chic
on a trip to Stockholm a couple of years ago I took some photos of cloth dyed with period fabrics, the thing that interested me was the colour variation between the different cloths even when using the same dye.
This lead me down a bit of a rabbit hole of research for dark age painters.
After trawling the internet for a while I came across Jenny Dean’s blog which is all about home dying and back in 2009 and 2011 she did a series on Anglo-Saxon dyes, this was gold dust and I’m using it across all my dark age miniatures.
Apart from a few instances of reds and blues for dark ages I don’t think you can go far wrong with WW2 colours
When I was doing the re enactment stuff I remember reading I think the Norwegians wouldn’t wear red Trews as they thought it unlucky. Of course it could have been the Danes instead
This is a great resource and I will be using I. When my Saxons arrive this week.
Just from a general interest perspective the techniques used at the the time are excellent and I will be having a look through the blog!
