PanzerKaput's Gangs of Rome
Basing, Cobbling the Via, Part One
This is hope I do my bases for my Gangs of Rome. I am sure and know that there is easier methods to get the same or better effects but i have started with this style of basing and I am not going to change it now, painted to many to change.
The fact the War Banner do some lovely resin bases now for this and all you simply need to do is to remove the base lug from the figure, which fills me with dread, glue and pin it to the base and paint and wash the base does make it much easier but at the time of starting this project they were not even thought of and so I went with this method.
I’m making the cobblestones for the bases from little balls of green stuff and then flattening them to make them look like flagstones of a Via. It is a slow process but it looks effective.
To start by adding the balls of green stuff to the bases of the figure and I try and vary the size of the balls to create different size flagstones.
Once I have surrounded the base of the figure I fill in the gaps with more balls of green stuff with the aim to cover the base. Remember to add a little water to your tool to help it not sticking to the green stuff.
Then with a nail file to pressed it into the green stuff to add texture to it and to look more like stones. Then with a nail file to pressed it into the green stuff to add texture to it and to look more like stones.
The Base is done and in the next part how to paint the base.
certainly a lot less hassle than cutting and pinning the mini on a fully textured base…but I’m in too deep now, I can’t go back 😉
Terrific work as always there @panzerkaput
I so know what you mean and for me i was more worried I would knacker the figure @avernos
