A newbies journey through WW2
I got something glued together
And it’s not my fingers. Imagine that! I think this marks the most terrifying hurdle. Actually putting something together. I decided to try and go with the suggested list from the El Alamein starter set. Its a tiny force, but I think it’s a good way to learn the basics of moving, shooting, pinning etc.
So…so far I have an officer (he’s been dubbed Mr. Useless, cause all he carries is a small pistol). A team of 5: 1 LMG, 1 SMG and 3 rifelmen. They do need a bit of clean up and mold line removal, but I am really pleased with the quality of this plastic set.
Oh…I do have an ‘officers map case’ on the sprue. No clue where that goes, but I’m guessing somewhere on the officers belt? as I said…complete newbie here.
Great idea for a project, @aurorainbag – if you need help with the DAK set, I suggest @avernos ‘ project “Avernos, the Desert Squirrel.” He has this very same kit and offers a lot of help on painting schemes, history, point construction, what to build, etc.

Thanks @oriskany 🙂 It is a bit overwhelming but great fun so far. Yeah @avernos‘ project is a godsend for someone like me. I’ve been staring intently at his pictures, and scooping up all the info I can from that project.
Update coming in the next couple of days. Now in glorious technicolour
Super-fast summary here … @aurorainbag – The Desert War for the Germans falls into two very broad time periods. Libya-Egypt (1941-42 and Tunisia (1943). There really are different weapons, colors, uniforms, vehicles, equipment, etc. The kit they have in that set is definitely the first period. (MG-34 MGs, etc). Not trying to muddy the waters, just something to keep an eye on if you’re doing research, looking for reference photos, etc. Anything during or before the Battle of El Alamein and you should be more than fine. Never be afraid not to include something. The DAK was not the over-powered,… Read more »
This is fantastic @Oriskany Thank you! Knowing that they threw bits and pieces together, removes this huge worry that I wouldn’t get it right. Which is odd that I feel so much here, cause in all other games I’m way more relaxed with whether it’s correct or not. And I know the guy my germans will be playing against, and he won’t mind either should (when) I get things wrong. So it’s purely me. So the above is a huge help, both information wise and for me personally 🙂 Also…love the idea of throwing something british into the mix…I might… Read more »
