Sikh / Punjabi Infantry w/ Matildas and Valentines in Historical Bolt Action?
Another person at the boot camp (Charlie from Warlord Games) was asking me for historical background on any Sikh units that might have fought on the same battlefield as British armoured units equipped specifically with Valentines / Matildas. I think he wants to combine his Matilda IIs and Valentine IIIs with a Sikh force, and was wondering if there was any occasion that actually happened.
Well, I was able to come close. Damned close. As in the Sikh Battalion (4th Bn / 11th Sikh Rgt) is actually assigned to the very same brigade (7th Indian Infantry Brigade / 4th Indian Division) to which the Matilda and Valentines of 42nd and 44th RTR / 1st Tank Brigade were attached at the outset of Crusader (18-23 November, 1941). I can get Charlie to within the same brigade, and 8000 yards on the battlefield. Like I said, extremely close.
Records include transcripts of wartime military documents, including the actual orders that went out to these actual units for the battle
But for an exact match, go with 4th Battalion / 16th Punjab Regiment.
