Confession time

Right before I go onto the decision I should make a little confession. I say that I played D&D and so I did however what stopped playing as two factors. My mates decided that they wanted to move onto Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, I was all for it, until I played it and really didn’t enjoy it, cannot remember why but it just was not my thing. Also we played other RPGs like TMNT and also Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay…which became one of my most beloved RPGs so D&D fell by the wayside.

New verse Old

So now it is 2018 I am in my early 40s I have a 9yo son who wants to get in some D&D, excellent it’s where I started in gaming. Then the realisation dawn’s on me ..how? I have no idea what has happened in the world of D&D since i was 15 or so. Do I just pick up my old books and start to play or do I look at another course of action. So I decided to ask and so posted a thread in the forums

Dungeons and Dragons – where to begin

As you can see if you read the thread I decided to order the starter set for 5th edition, which has a ready made adventure included. I found it for a £15 so cannot be bad.

Searching for the lost knowledge

Since I last played D&D there has been an amazing technological leap forward. And so in order to get my head around things and also introduce my son to things I decided to see what is out on Your Tube and sure enough there is more stuff than I could ever imagined.

But what it has done is started me thinking about how I will make this exciting for mt Son. It will therefore be  a three stage process.

1. Generating basic characters

2. Playing through a ready made adventure.

3. Start the world building

So this is what I will be exploring over the coming months.

Free rules

So what I have also learned is there are free rules .? Only basic but hell I ain’t ain’t going to say no.

So now it’s doing some reading, and I have also asked my son to go looking on you tube at some videos. After all he watches lots of video game related stuff.
