How I do my Bases

I themed these bases around a late fall forest. I thought I’d share how I do them.

The first thing I do is use the Vallejo Dark Earth mix. I use this for almost every base and I find I can change it up to fit nearly any basing requirement. Once it dries and hardens, I drybrush a little Vallejo Red Leather to give a bit of contrast. I suspect any lighter brown would be fine.

The next thing is to get a little white glue down. I purposefully leave some spots without glue, just to add more “texture” to the bases.

I am using Army Painter Wasteland tufts, Natural Leaf Litter from Green Stuff World and the Steppe Grass mix from Army Painter. I find that the steppe grass mix works on a variety of seasons/genres.  You just plop them down into the glue. On the parts of the horses where some earth or mud is sculpted in, I glue leaves along those vertical surfaces to simulate the horses kicking up piles of leaves.

I also edge paint all my bases in black. I don’t even bother diluting it for this step.
