I am a fan of the Hellraiser series of films, Silent Hill films (and the first three games) and definitely most things that pull body horror elements into media. When browsing my FLGS for figures and finding a Herald of Slaanesh I thought that given the fluff of 40k this might be a fun thing to play in display basing.

My inspiration comes from film as the Pillar of Souls from Hellraiser III, the alternate world of Silent Hill and Japanese B-films like Tokyo Gore Police. Other visual influence for the idea comes from the art of H.R. Giger and work for Magic the Gathering in its early days by Mark Tedin and Anson Maddocks.

Here I started with plasticard roughly 32x45mm that I held together with an angle strip. It might be the .040″ thick ABS I have on hand but then again it could be the .060″. Once you start playing around with the stuff you get an idea of how durable it is to build with and what weight will fulfill your use. I could go with heavier materials or a solid plinth but I’m thinking about portability for show and it would be easier to put things like this into a carry-on case. I might just magnetize it to set on a base and swap out between displays. I’ll compete a bit before I address that option.

It starts off so simple before creativity pounces and paws all over it in the most sordid of ways
