Odds, Sods n ......Stuffs. A Medley of Mayhem
Still Wooding along
A small thing but thought it might be worth posting up. After doing the wood workup for viewers on a resin base (finished below ) –
I felt like doing some more woody things so after a pissy day at work, I cam home and made a thing from some old paint stirrer stick and bits of lollipop sticks – a sandwich board, I think they are called. I needed a wee thingy to go on the base for my ‘Puppeteer’ from Kimera Studios.
Put together in about 10 mins (not including the unsticking the damn thing from my fingers time)
Similar workup again as to what was done on the wood for the resin base (video tutorial below here …down down – earlier project entry)
Started by lightly drying brushing some schminke white over a black prime the painted up with Scale 75 paints – Walnut, Sandalwood, Black Leather, Iroko and Birch. Was rather chuffed with the results.
But……….. needed something more. I wanted it to look really old and rotten. So keep wash of Magi-Mix (Nuln, Agrax, Lahmium, Water 2:1:1:1) and then built up some thinned out Sherwood Green (S75) to add some algae/lichen/green crap on some of the more rotten areas of the board.
I wanted some sort of signage on it though……….. Hmmmm……
The Model which this will eventually set alongside is called The Puppeteer and comes from a 5 model range called ‘Freak Show’
So my first thought was to print out some Olde freak show posters off the interwebs on some recycled A4 (when printing posters for terrain, diormas etc – the cheaper recycleed A4 paper is way better than the ream of A4 copy paper one may or may not have pinched from work as it gives a more weathered cheap print poster look) which would probably have worked well enough but then I thought that a kind of handpainted janky look would go better with the overall piece. So…… nervously ………as I was rather fond of the wood effect I had already got and didnt want to feth it up, I set to it………….
And this/that was the outcome 🙂 Freshly painted on stream this morning in what is the last thing I will have painted here in Korea as immediately after stream I started to pack up all my paints, brushes and equipment for the big move back to Ireland.
Easy enough job – the cruddy wite background was done with a really buggered up, rough bristled, shot, synthetic brush; as I wanted to show the brushstrokes where someone had shoddily painted a background on the board to then put some lettering over. The writing was then freehanded on – trying to make it look carefully but not professionally done. Still looked a bit clean so a few feathered out strokes of thinned athonian camoshade and seraphim sepia grottied it up a wee bit and then we have it. The whole thing is about the size of a postage stamp – lol. Twas a fun wee mini-mini-project to do. Hope you like 😀
The detail on the wood on the base looks fantastic!
Cheers Dave 🙂
