First things first I painted all the metal areas black (or at least I thought I did, I kept finding bits i’d missed later on)

Lets get cracking! Trolls & Mawbeasts first

Mawbeasts first.

I painted their manes a light brown mix (most of my paints are 20 years old from older GW ranges with some army painter stuff thrown in).

I did the lips black and the gums red

the skin was a light coat of the Army Painter soft tone wash applied as a glaze

and guess what… ready for Quickshade

Next the Trolls

Again the idea is to go for light colours so the Quickshade works best. But on the larger models i’m happy to do highlights afterwards, so a few darker colours are going to be fine.

To add a bit of variation, one of the Trolls has a Buckler made from a GW Ogre belly plate, and the end of the club has become a bit of base decoration.

My Quickshade had developed a thick skin and went on a bit too thick, just as well I was happy to highlight afterwards

Followed by some Matt Varnish the next morning, and then minor highlights and a black coat around the base
