Documenting colours

To be honest, the main driver for me to start this project log is to have the colours and methods used documented somewhere easy to find. I completed my Bolt Actioon US force three years ago, and now with the release of the brilliant new GIs boxed, I’m expanding it a bit. I DID have my earlier used colours documented, but it took a better part of the hour to find it. Anyway, hopefully this project will be useful for others too, looking to paint WWII US.

Base work

After building the models and the bases, I primed them black using an airbrush. Giving the primer good 24 hours to dry, I followed it with pre-shading/zenithal of grey.

Above are the main colours used.

VMC 988 Khaki – Jackets

VMC 873 US Field Drab – Trousers

VMC 886 Green Grey – Webbing

VMC 887 Brown Violet – Helmets

VMC 846 Mahogany Brown – Leathers

After these, I followed each with a matching wash.
