Okay so this is a little bit of a cheat as I have already started creating this army last year. However, I had never really been able to upload photos and would like to show you the process of how I created this army and how I wish to see expand in the future.

Conception

Ever since starting 40k (a long time ago) I always wanted to have an armoured company. This iteration of the game has allowed me to achieve this and use it in both a competitive and themed manner. I’ve a big interest in history, especially WW2, which has given me inspiration to create this army. Hopefully you’ll see lots of neat little nods to those historical vehicles and armies in this project.

Mainstain Medium Tanks

The main part of my army was to be Leman Russ. As a Sci-fi tank it takes many design elements from the war machines of old. The track shape from a MK1 and the hull mounted gun from a Lee. I wanted to emphasize the lived in real feel of these vehicles and to do this I needed the vehicles to develop personalities. I decided that I would paint names, just as tankers did and do, on the turrets. To catch people off guard, I used Disney Princess names. It actually works surprisingly well. The other references I added were, black berets for tank commanders, stowage, sand bag extra armour and many other little features that can be seen on photos of WW2 tanks. The tanks armour was pre highlighted and shades and then given an airbrush of Armour Green. Next a wash of light rust followed by stippling rhinox hide to create the rust and dirt weathering. Overall I was pleased with the effect and I hope you can see it too.
