Perry Miniatures Ride Forth; New Plastic Austrian Napoleonic Cavalry
June 3, 2020 by brennon
Perry Miniatures has this week released their new plastic miniatures kit for the Austrian Napoleonic Cavalry. So, if you're heading off to Waterloo and need to build some new wargaming miniatures in 28mm, take a look!
Perry Miniatures' Napoleonic Austrian "German" Cavalry
This set allows you to build fourteen cavalrymen including their Officer, Trumpeter and an optional Standard Bearer. Breaking it down, this means they can be assembled as Cuirassiers, Dragoons or Chevauxlegers (Light Dragoons prior to 1801) from 1798-1815 with the appropriate head/helmet variants according to the folks at Perry Miniatures.
Example Painted Austrian Light Dragoons
The Austrian army during the Napoleonic Wars had a strong cavalry arm which was able to put a lot of pressure on the enemy during confrontations. As always with a Perry Miniatures kit, there is a lot of detail worked into the constituent parts and they would be a joy to paint up.

The plastic set is available right now and you can also pick up three sets in order to qualify for the free Cuirassier Colonel in metal too. If this is going to form the backbone of your army then you might as well splurge I guess!

It’s such a versatile set, you can create all the heavy cavalry variants in one box. The Perry’s always do a lot of research and usually include a sheet in their boxes detailing all the uniform facing colours and the variants for the officers and musicians, saves a lot of effort trying to find the information yourself.
I hear the words Perry Miniatures and I think Quality every time. The guys at Perry’s are great at packing in historically accurate detail into both metal and plastic minis. Then they add in enough parts with the plastic kits allowIng you to knock out a range of options and units. Then they show you how lovely they look painted up…..Then I’m reaching for my wallet ?
Great looking cavalry.
Looks great!
Mine are in the post!??
Not to nitpick but why would you need Austrian Cavalry if you’re off to Waterloo?
Back on topic, Wagram is a dream of mine to bring to the tabletop.
Love em, though I´d much prefer smaller scales for Napoleonic wargaming.
They still would be beautifull in a skirmish sized game.
The more Napoleonic savvy Cogs may confirm but the unarmored ones could be used for Prussian Currasier s as well.
Possibly armoured as well as not sure if its been debunked but the Branderburg Curraisiers were believed to wear captured French Armour.
