Perry Miniatures Launch New Valour & Fortitude Wargaming Rules
September 21, 2022 by brennon
The folks at Perry Miniatures, namely Michael and Alan Perry, teamed up with Jervis Johnson to put together a set of Napoleonic wargaming rules for you to use with their blisteringly large 28mm miniatures collection. Valour & Fortitude!

The Valour & Fortitude rules are free for you to download and have been laid out over eight pages so there isn't much reading to do. The rules have been designed, in Jervis' own words, to avoid what he calls “game designer f**kwittery". So, they get a lot of the complexity out of the way and try to allow you to get the feel of Napoleonic warfare without it turning into a grind.

The Valour & Fortitude rules are also available as part of the new Wargames Illustrated magazine and over on their website as a free download as well. In addition to the rules, you can also pick up Army Sheets covering the Napoleonic French, Austrian, Prussian and Russian armies. Over the next few months, more army sheets will be added and updated including the British and Spanish.

There is also a set of Scenarios for you to also download and use during your first games. There is a scenario for a Set Piece Battle, a full-on Assault and a Meeting Engagement. Classic wargaming scenario fodder I would say!

Valour & Fortitude is designed to make it easy to dive into wargaming the Napoleonic era but the team has already discussed exploring periods like the War Of The Roses and the Franco-Prussian Wars.
Are you tempted to give these a download and check them out alongside some long discarded Napoleonic miniatures?

Fantastic figures for gamers.
…and now rules!
Form up an CHAAARRRGE.?
That Jervis Johnson wrote these just makes me smile.
Indeed it does!
But do you still need an 8 foot table
Had a quick look. You’ll need a few hundred figures to play these and I reckon that would be for an extra small battle
Rules are nothing special in my opinion
Sticking with General D’Armee for my rules (or General Du Brigade for smaller games), they work excellently with the smaller scales (such as 6mm or 10mm figures with a figure ratio of 1:20 for “old school” Nap games). I found this channel on Youtube with a gamer having a “first go” at Naps AND with 6mm (wish I could paint em up this good) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsPO56bMNGI
