New Plastic Goblins 3Ups Previewed From North Star
June 20, 2017 by brennon
North Star has shown off some sneaky peeks at the Goblins that are going to become a plastic set in the near future.
These are the 3Up models that they are working on right now so they won't be completely representative of the final product but they do show off a massive range of weapon options and assorted bits and bobs accessory-wise.
As I've mentioned before it's going to be great building their new Dwarves as Thorin & Company and then using these Goblins to make a more book-specific Hobbit collection. I really like the idea of using the models and playing out the Escape from Goblin Town scenarios with them for example.
The news is that these will be the basis of a new mass battle game from Osprey which certainly makes sense to us.
What do you think of these Goblins?

interesting looking goblins.
I likey – reminds me of the Iron Crown MERP art – and pretty much all 70s/80s orcs/goblins, but specifically this cover (I know this is technically an Orc, but goblins/orcs were often interchangeable) – North Star knocking out some cracking 70s low-fi (vs airbrushed “pin-up” fantasy) sculpts recently.
Jeah. Angus McBride was great for LotR, too. There certainly is a familiarity as both draw from that very early fantasy style (let’s call it classical / pulpy…). McBride had a very special own look for his Orcs/Goblins though that these here don’t match. Sadly so to me. I’d love very good new McBride-Orcs/Gobs.

Nice looking indeed!
I love the look of these!
I’m guessing that the final minis would have that big plinth, right?
North start plastics have a built-in plastic base, so it’ll be similar but perhaps not as tall. Easily lopped off if you don’t like. I stick them on a 2p base and blend in with leftover green stuff, Milliput, Polyfilla, whatever’s to hand.
North Star even. Send coffee.
I do the same thing with Mantic models. They come with a base that’s too large for Battlesystem in many cases, so I mount them on a cheap square base and use putty to integrate them.
I am not entirely happy here. The one with the horned helmet I certainly like very much. As well as most of the other equipment and stuff except some bits and pieces either quality or style wise. E.g. could do without the double axe, the archer’s face, both face and cap of the other one in the front and the that same guy’s chainmail sleeves don’t look very crisp and well formed which I hope not to be an ill omen for the whole set. Otherwise I’m quite interested in this.
Fabulous! Serious goblins. Now I can unload my GW ones.
Those are some real goblins 🙂
Those are some good looking goblins. Very LotR style.
