Frostgrave Nickstarter Launches For Wizarding Goodness
May 11, 2015 by brennon
Northstar and Osprey Publishing's Frostgrave has launched on Nickstarter (their version of a Kickstarter but more of a pre-order system) and they've already bust through a bunch of stretch goals while showing off their wonderful Wizards...
What Level Of Wizard Are You?
There are a five different levels of order you can pick up for Frostgrave and while the basic one is the book itself the second level allows you to pick up the rulebook and one of the Wizard packs...
...which is quite an interesting prospect but I reckon most people are going to go for the level four pledge which gives you each of the ten Wizard packs alongside one of the packs of plastic infantry and the book of course.
If you REALLY want to get into the world of Frostgrave then you can go for the pledge below which not only gives you everything else but additional specialist soldiers and the work of fiction along with a Lich too.
"While individual games of Frostgrave are quick and can easily be played in an hour or two, it is by connecting them into an ongoing campaign that players will find the most enjoyment. In the campaign section, players will find treasure tables, rules for establishing bases, and even tables for wandering monsters. The scenarios given in the book are merely the beginning of the limitless adventures that can be found amidst the ruins of the Frozen City."
This game really does sound intriguing and I love the background with these Wizards all coming to this city, dragging a bunch of soldiers along with them with the promise of coin and glory. Linked campaigns always win me over too.
Have you pledged for Frostgrave?

Tempting…
Finally someone realized there is room in the market for a Mordheim-Like system and without reinventing the wheel having warbands defined by wizards is a very charming choice! I don’t have any Northstar miniatures at the moment but from the pictures in the magazines they looks great, and Osprey is becoming a strong brand in the wargames rules after years of complete dominion in history books for wargamers. I’ll go at least for level four but honestly level five is so tempting that I might end up pledging for that. Only problem, with some many miniatures still unpainted I’m so… Read more »
This basically sums up all my passing perceptions thus far about this game.
Very interested, they would also make good stand-ins for Ars Magica.
I really like the soldiers (plastic!), the rest of the minis are also great, i’m just not so keen on pewter minis anymore but, i must admit i’ve been looking at them since they popped up.
I am quite fine with pewter, I would like to see the game expand and new races added ( Gnolls please!) what worries me is plastic as that means most likely they will have to relly on doing kickstarters to expand the game instead of having more less costly materials such as resin and metal were they would be able to make enough money to expand their game. I vote for the other two as I want to see expansions to this game and see it grow in diversity and options!.
Does this mean I can have a necromancer with all the fixings and mercenaries? :O
I’m seeing skellingtons.
Might join in, but only for the rulebook. I prefer realistic sculpts instead of “heroic” ones. So this game will be like Mordheim? I’ll beg this game gets popular, i’ve been waiting so long for a game like this.
In as far as there will be warbands fighting in a medieval city then obviously yes.
Beyond that someone else is probably more in the know but that’s more than enough incentive for me.
I’m going in at level 3. Well as soon as I can make up my mind as to which sorcerer to have that is.
I daresay there a lot of people who will have plenty of figures already and would only need to buy the rules but who can resist new toys ?
@Huscarle-My sentiments exactly!
What is this new word you speak of? Resist?
I must buy this!
Also jumped in at level 3 and whilst it had been the figs that initially tempted me, the more I read of the Frostgrave blurb, the better it sounds.
I’d actually originally wanted to get the plastics (for RPG’s and a possible KoM KoW army of Mercs) and one or two wiz’s, but for the price I’m tempted to get more before it ends. Looking good so far.
The plastic soldiers look nice, but if I were you, I’d wait for the comparison pics with other ranges. As far as I know, NorthStar figures tend to be on a larger side (closer to GW proportions), so using figures from other manufacturers may be a bit of a sore sight.
In my book that’s the perfect proportions and level of detail to not scare off average joe&Nancy Babich hobbyist from making conversions.
I have already started with level 1 as I have a ghuge amount of models, there is no need for a new one untill I saw the sprues. And I have already opted for the fiction book. If you are interested more about frostgrave I have collected some info from several sources:

dammit there is no edit option? I have to work on my grammar…and typos…
Oh yes the good old edit button we all wish existed…
Went for the level 5, guess I know what I’ll be doing till Christmas. Just hoping that the rumoured Warhammer terrain is suitable for this game.
This is a level 5 event if there ever was one. Just look at all those Empire unit commander if the rules are broken beyond repair. Cause, like, what’s an Osprey?
I think our group will just be buying the rulebook and using the huge amounts of minis we already have. Nice to see them using pewter though always been my favourite and none of that stupid gluing models together nonsense
This game really intrigues me, though I wish there were more details about the game itself out there. I want to see more of how the magic, combat, and the campaign structure works. Does anyone know if they will publish more information about the game as the nickstarter continues?
I’m really looking forward to this game… I’ve not been so excited about a new game in a long while.
