North Star & Osprey Join Forces For Rogue Stars Nickstarter
November 2, 2016 by brennon
The Sci-Fi adventures of Osprey's upcoming game, Rogue Stars, are coming soon thanks to a Nickstarter by North Star. Will you be getting stuck into this new game?
So what is Rogue Stars?
"Rogue Stars is a character-based science fiction skirmish wargame, where players command crews of bounty hunters, space pirates, merchants, prospectors, smugglers, mercenary outfits, planetary police and other such shady factions from the fringes of galactic civilisation.
Crews can vary in size, typically from four to six, and the character and crew creation systems allow for practically any concept to be built. Detailed environmental rules that include options for flora, fauna, gravity, dangerous terrain and atmosphere, and scenario design rules that ensure that missions are varied and demand adaptation and cunning."
Sounds pretty epic and has a ring of Guardians of the Galaxy about it. Mix that with a bit of the Firefly feel and you've got a great game in the making.
Miniature Smugglers
Of course, any good game needs models!
As vast array of Human and Alien models are on the way for this game so you could make whatever crew you want.
I particularly like the massive Robot that they've added into the mix. Known as 'Big Bot' he seems like he'd be one of those gentle giants as the story unfolds.
Are you tempted to dive into this world and give it a go? It seems like the perfect way to build up a set of characters for both skirmish games and a bit of role-playing too if you took them to a system like Traveller for example.
What do you think?

Firefly, Ice Pirates, Dark Matter (Season 2 just came out on Netflix!) there’s so many things I want to do with this game. I hope it lives up to the hype.
I think the story driven, free model choice, open world nature of the quasi-generic rules will make it a hit along the lines of Frostgrave.
Frostgrave in spaaaaace you say? Sold to the fat bloke in the ridiculous llama hat.
It’s not THAT ridiculous ………..
In person it really is. It’s also no use in the UK. It’s never cold enough for two layers of llama wool.
I’ll be getting in on this when I get paid on Friday!
Having backed Star Saga, I can see some of these models pulling double-duty…
I’m definitely getting this. There’s so many possibilities to recreate your favourite bits of sci-fi, as other folks have said.
the figures look good a motley crew struggling to survive, very titan AE?
Now that’s a reference I’ve not heard in a long time… a long time.
Finally I can pit Firefly against Farscape on the tabletop!
this looks like it has lots of potential. the freedom it promises is a big draw.
might be tough to keep it balanced but I think that is a reasonably pay off for the narrative crew building. I think I would be happy in my hobby if I only had this and frost grave on the shelf.
I can’t wait to get this in hand! Just waiting for payday Friday.
If this means they’ll be making a plastic generic scifi trooper box in the same vein as their frostgrave sets sign me up twice.
…. That would be nice …… thinks wistful thoughts
Reminds of that old weird Salvage Crew/Star Mogul game that Megaminis bought and then kiboshed.
If it’s frostgrave in space it’ll be a BLAST!
