The Wonderland Gang Add Some Oddity To Knight Model’s Batman
October 9, 2015 by brennon
Knight Models have gone a little off the wall with another of their new miniature sets coming to their Batman Miniatures Game. The Wonderland Gang are coming soon and I'm sure Gotham will never be the same after they show up...
Tweedledum and Tweedledee were the leaders of this outfit and they have a range of additional helpers as part of their organised crime outfit. The Mad Hatter, March Hare, Lion, Unicorn, Walrus and Carpenter were all part of a heist which was foiled by Batman, Nightwing and Robin.
I wonder how well they will do in the game where they can get back onto the streets of Gotham and start sowing havoc?
What do you think?

Brilliant!
Alice meets Batman?! Yes, please! I’m in. 😀
You do realize that in Bat-Man The Mad Hater’s Alices’ are his next victim ( Mad Hatter is a serial Child molester/Killer. So urm! that Bat-Man meets Alice would be when he found her dead body, or an extremely messed up dead inside but living person. Not a fun thing to game.
The Mad Hatter is actually leader of this crew, while Tweedledum & Tweedledee are henchmen who can also be taken by a Joker crew. The White Rabbit here is classed as a Free Agent and can also be taken by a Bane Crew for reasons I’m not familiar with. Personally I was hoping for something a bit more Arkham City styled but going with the comic book look works too I think. This release along with the new Scarecrow crew leaves just one crew from the rulebook without a crew box now; Mr Freeze. So the line-up is almost complete… Read more »
I was going off their background in the comics (I didn’t know much about them) – looked them up and apparently the twins were the ring leaders.
Neat to know Hatter is the leader in the crew in game though – would probably explain why he is an ‘ex-member’ on the wiki page haha.
Different iterations of the character I guess. Or maybe what you read was something prior to Mad Hatter developing his mind control tech? Or hey, comic books are well known for continuity, right? 😉
I really find Knight Model’s releases to be hit or miss. These are very much a miss for me.
It’s very odd that this game has cartoonish style for some models and photorealistic for other models. I wish they just make up their mind and stick with it. It would make this game more united and look better if they just choose one look. Personally I find the more professional high detailed look of the Dark Knight to be the best they have so far.
Knight are trying to stay true to the source material for each version of a character. If its rules are based on a comic book source then the mini gets a look to reflect that. Over time many characters are getting alternate versions so it will possible to create a unified collection.
I agree with obsidian3d though, if they aee painted by the same person they will look much more unified.
The somewhat scattergun approach to the release schedule has been a bit off-putting for me. We’re getting various comic book versions, various TV show versions, various video game show versions, and movie versions, none of which (outside the Watchmen line) are particularly coherent. I have my preferences, which are mainly for the comic book versions like the ones in this news item (and which are favourite BMG releases for a while), but I don’t mind the focus being on something else for a while as long as it’s building to something coherent.
I so agree with both your statements. As long as it’s coherent I can see myself getting into this game.
I don’t think the game should only ever be one interpretation of the setting, only that if we’re going to see a Penguin from the Gotham TV show, I want the release schedule to focus on characters from that show for a while so that you can put together Gotham gangs (emphasis on the plural in case you want to play them against each other). Ditto for Arrow, the 1960s TV show, and so on. Whilst all gangs would be compatible against all other gangs when using the base rules, it’d be good if there were rules you could use… Read more »
The releases do sometimes line up with something else going on in the wider franchise. When the new Arkham Knight game launched that month was all Arkham Knight themed characters. I think they are starting to do this more so with Arrow coming back on I think we might see new Arrow crew releases. When Gotbam comes back we might see an Organised Crime crew set. The exception will be when Mr Freeze gets a crew set, cant see that being tied to anything upcoming soon and they will want one out soon so that all crews will be playable.
Hopefully that proves to be the case. I don’t see what good a single Arrow or Gotham mini does for anyone. Each setting should also be clearly branded.
I love the fact the mini all have different styles just like source material. Basically if you don’t have an encyclopedic knowledge of the commics/torrented the various archives, there are radically different artistic styles used in the various batman comic ranges. I massively respect the decision by knight to go with style in the standout story lines, rather than going for a consistent sculpting style. That said I would love them to do a ‘the animated series’ range of all the major characters…. Although I doubt the the art deco style would translate well to a 3d sculpt without looking… Read more »
Like I say, it’s not the variety which is the issue. I’m all in favour of as many interpretations of the setting as possible. It’s the incoherent way the release schedule produces them. Some interpretations are only represented by a single mini, and the others are haphazardly released. Personally, I think KM would be well served to compartmentalise the range by interpretation and build up all of them by focusing the release schedule on one or two at a time. To clarify, I’m not saying the game should be compartmentalised, any gang can play against any other gang, just that… Read more »
I have collected a lot of the line and think they look good together when painted by the same hand. I don’t know much about the characters other than Jervis, but I’d be happy to run this crew in my games. I quite like it, but I also like the new Scarecrow too.
It is good that there are lots of miniatures that can join no matter which leaders. Some kind of good-evil afiliations.
But it is good that there is more flavor.
Perhaps instead of denying using a miniature in a band, boosting it when used with its “natural” leader, with some kind of sinergy.
I wonder if they’ll expand to the wider DC universe, maybe this hints at fables miniatures?
I dunno if it would fit the game, but i’d love a miniature model of bigby…
