July 23, 2021 by fcostin
Looking to add some winged whimsy to your next Dungeons & Dragons campaign? The Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign details have now been announced by Wizards of the Coast. And players can now head out to the Plane of the Fairie, through a gateway of a mysterious carnival into a brand new world of rich lore and adventure.

You can't beat a creepy carnival right? The new story takes players into an adventure where worlds collide. Every eight years, a mysterious carnival makes its way into town. Owned by Mister Witch and Mister Light, the carnival beams with opportunity and wonder (and some freaky looking clowns). This is no ordinary carnival at all. As this carnival withholds a special gateway into another world, the Feywild.

When fairies come to mind to some, they certainly do bring bright colours, glitter and 'clap if you're happy' vibes. However, these mythical creatures have been known to be mischievous, even evil in some cultures. There may be more than meets the eye thank Disney-themed carriages and stunning woodland landscapes. Considering Wizards of the Coast has described the new world as "wicked whimsy", the storyline bringing the Fae front-and-centre will be sure to shine them in a new light?
The Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign has been outlined and revealed, and although at a first glance the new campaign and storyline seems to be quite cute-sie, Wizards of the West Coast promise some darkness too, with some "wicked whimsy" embedded on every page.

Players will be able to introduce themselves as a favourite mythical being amongst many fantasy genre lovers. As players can now explore the realm of the fairies, they will be unlocking new playable races - the wonderful fairy race and the whimsical harengon race of humanoid rabbits.
Not much has been released regarding the story itself, mainly features surrounding The Wild Beyond the Witchlight Campaign Book, however, there still poses so many questions for me that make me want to bury my head in the story more, especially seeing the crossover between cute and grim - that is right up my street! Especially when the devious Fae are concerned.

The Wild Beyond Witchlight Campaign Book is a perfect entry point for new RPG explorers. Designed for characters of levels 1-8, players will be guided through both plots of opportunity, with a poster included - one side the carnival and the other through the gateway.
If you do want to journey through the lands and not hack-and-slash your way through, just by accessing story and lore, the adventure includes a "non-combat option", so players can uncover the rich fantasy realm at their own ease.
Although the campaign seems highly Fairy focussed, the 'witch' sentiment provided throughout their announcement is a hint which I cannot simply let go. "The Wild Beyond the Witchlight", "Mister Witch and Mister Light", "Something Wicked This Way Comes", "schemes of the Hourglass Coven"? Something tells me that there is certainly something spooky brewing for the world of witchcraft in this campaign, and I am personally excited to see where this all ties together.

The campaign book is available to purchase on September 21st 2021, however, you can put in a pre-order online or at your FLGS store. And if you are a bit of a collector like myself and love special edition and alternative covers, you can get your hands on the Alt Cover to be released on the same day.

I was thinking tinkebell would make a great thieve but it’s more American gothic psycho clowns territory.?
To paraphrase Indiana Jones, “Why did it have to be clowns?”
Lol.
I’m going to need a bunch of those carnival minis for some table top gaming…probably Pulp Alley with a “Something Wicked This Way Comes” horror scenario. Sounds like a blast! The swamp gas balloon premium mini looks pretty cool too.
