White Dwarf Turns Forty With Celebratory Miniatures!
April 27, 2017 by brennon
Started back in 1977 White Dwarf has gone through some pretty big changes and now marks its 40th Anniversary. With that in mind Games Workshop are celebrating with a special new Grombrindal miniature!
The new White Dwarf will be looking back at the past forty years as well as looking ahead to what's coming for Age of Sigmar, Blood Bowl and of course Warhammer 40,000. There's also this miniature of Grombrindal to snap up in his Mk XXXXXX power armour.
You can pre-order him this weekend and I imagine he's going to go quite quickly. Since the Squats have gone the way of the dodo this might be a close as you get to Sci-Fi Dwarfs from Games Workshop now. It also seems fitting considering this year is also the start of a big change for Warhammer 40,000.
Forge World's Grombrindal
The team at Forge World are also marking the occasion with a new version of Grombrindal in his Blood Bowl kit facing off against the Black Gobbo, his archnemesis.
Rules for this pair will be in the May issue of White Dwarf and you'll be able to snap them up at Warhammer Fest later in the month. I think this pair looks fantastic, especially the wild hair of Grombrindal! That must take a lot of product (or grease) to stay up.
I wonder if he gets a sponsorship deal?
What do you think of these new Grombrindal miniatures?

Is it just me or does it look like he’s got a keg built into his backpack? Beerpowered armour, how dwarven, lol
The Black Gobbo looks nice, BB White Dwarf not so much; think he’d have looked better with less extreme hair.
Ain’t just you… 😉
Disagree though, the GW one would have looked better without all that SM. And the BB one is just fine in royal Slayer style – except for the jewel headpiece that I’d banish forever.
Yep :p lol – same thing with the artwork on WD :p
*starts tearing up…….a 40k dwarf …… *starts crying …. Way to to rub it in GW ………. *sobs You b@$tards …………*sobbing uncontrollably …. It’s just teaseand humiliate all the time with you in this relationship isn’t it????/ ………. *red eyed tears and hysterical…….. ISN”T IT!?! ……..*pathetic mewling and sobbing ….. Why won’t you take my needs seriously ??/
They did another one only a couple of years back too. Although iirc he wore an outfit similar to the KO, so maybe it was a predictor of the future none of us heeded at the time 😮
I know I was hurting then too
Oh mate that’s harsh. At least he’s not riding one of them squat bikes. They were super cool, they were.
This helping loads, right?
Squat trikes.
If you’re gonna pour salt in the wound, at least get your terminology right!
😛
@lordofuzkulak no he’s right when he said bikes. The original Squats had both Bikes and Trikes, how do I know this? because I have some of both!
I know they did, but the trikes are more iconic, and the point was rubbing it in for beardragon 😉
their little leather jackets and sawn off shotguns … I remember one having a cigar ……Nooo Not helping at all
Hell I’d even be happy if they brought them back with that “land train” thing from Epic … damn that was cool
Lol, as a greenskin lover I can’t fully support prolification of dwarves. I do find it odd that GW seems so insistant on not doing squats. I understand why they went away, as GW didn’t feel they could come up with a unique army playstyle, but now it seems almost a dogmatic no.
@beardragon14 come to the orks mate, we have axes, we have beer (fungus beer can’t be worse than rice beer) honour is overated. Plus once you go green ….
i did dabble with Orks ….. but I felt dirty … I may be back if the rules improve
Embrace the dirty, even Gimli wants his dwarves heavily armed and filthy @beardragon14
Wierdly though GW don’t help themselves when they go throwing out the occasional reference to them like in 6th ed.
Does it make it better or worse to know that squats seem to have made their way into Age of Sigmar?
The FW’S one is actually amazing. Really want to have one. I’d never have thought so but that design works incredibly well.
he look fantastic in both getups.
I don’t really like GW version but FW version as well as Black Gobbo are really good.
Well there are rumors of a new faction coming in the new edition could this be a hint that its the Squats/Demiurg? I am liking the models over all. They should be fun painting if I can get though my back log.
Bloodbowl ones appeal more, well more the gobbo than the dwarf. Other one is nice enough but no desire to paint it.
Um. Didn’t the technically do away with White Dwarf a few years back … then revive it when the thing they replaced it with failed. I mean … just saying 🙂 Squat PTSD aside … it is cool to see the WD in power armor … I’ll probably try to snag one (some) of em at some point 🙂 I feel like GW is kind of turning a corner towards happier days again personally. I’m not back drinking the cool-aid just yet, but my angst towards them has mostly melted away now that they seem to really be focused on… Read more »
I have pre-ordered my Grombrindal. I am currently deciding what to do with him ……. best current thought is this…. Giving him Big Bobby G’s rules (No I’m serious he’s a dwarf you can shove your Squats =Imperial guards bollocks up a black ork’s nether regions… It’s Space marine rules all the way) and having him stand as Primarch Grombrindal Squatus of the 2nd Legion …..The 2nd Legion being master artisans whose power armour looks suspiciously like that of the Kharadron Overlords……and have time jumped 10000 years to save the dopey normal sized space marines in their hour of need… Read more »
Where did you preorder I can’t see it anywhere on the website?
Ah, just saw your in Australia, that’ll be why then 😉
Yeah mate sorry….
Now I really feel old.
