John Constantine, the Hellblazer, the Laughing Magician, the World's Greatest Con-Man, is set to get the adaptation he deserves as we get our first glimpse of him in the new Constantine TV series.

John Constantine

John Constantine Hellblazer  is one of my all time favourite comic series and I was so sad when DC discontinued it.

For those of you who haven't come across him before here's a quick bio. Constantine was first created by comic legend Alan Moore in Swamp Thing. He is a Liverpudlian, working class hero with a quick wit and a tendency to find himself in the middle of supernatural catastrophes. Although he is potent magician, he prefers to use his intelligence to con his way out of situations. He is often described as the world's greatest con-man, having conned both Heaven and Hell. He is a chain smoking, cynical, blond haired b*****d.

In summation, John Constantine is this,

Hellblazer Original Sins

not this.

Constantine

They cast Shia LaBeouf as Chas, come on!

For the new NBC TV show, the white collar wizard is being played by Matt Ryan, a Welsh actor who has appeared in shows such as The Tudors, Criminal Minds, Torchwood. Perhaps his biggest role was as the voice and motion capture for the pirate protagonist Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag.

Constantine Crew

So far I think things are looking pretty promising. The costume is true to the comics and the actor definitely seems capable of portraying this charming rogue. We still have to wait and see what the accent will be like though.

Are any of you fans of the Hellblazer? Are you looking forward to his television appearance?
