The White Collar Wizard John Constantine Heads to TV

John Constantine, the Hellblazer, the Laughing Magician, the World's Greatest Con-Man, is set to get the adaptation he deserves as we get our first glimpse of him in the new Constantine TV series.
John Constantine Hellblazer is one of my all time favourite comic series and I was so sad when DC discontinued it.
For those of you who haven't come across him before here's a quick bio. Constantine was first created by comic legend Alan Moore in Swamp Thing. He is a Liverpudlian, working class hero with a quick wit and a tendency to find himself in the middle of supernatural catastrophes. Although he is potent magician, he prefers to use his intelligence to con his way out of situations. He is often described as the world's greatest con-man, having conned both Heaven and Hell. He is a chain smoking, cynical, blond haired b*****d.
In summation, John Constantine is this,
not this.
They cast Shia LaBeouf as Chas, come on!
For the new NBC TV show, the white collar wizard is being played by Matt Ryan, a Welsh actor who has appeared in shows such as The Tudors, Criminal Minds, Torchwood. Perhaps his biggest role was as the voice and motion capture for the pirate protagonist Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag.
So far I think things are looking pretty promising. The costume is true to the comics and the actor definitely seems capable of portraying this charming rogue. We still have to wait and see what the accent will be like though.
Are any of you fans of the Hellblazer? Are you looking forward to his television appearance?
Rather looking forward to this adaptation.
Me too. I should point out I think the Constantine film was a lot of fun, but it wasn’t John Constantine.
Agree, the film was entertaining when viewed as a stand alone piece.
Hmm not a bad casting choice although my first choice would have been Misha Collins. My wife was a huge Hellblazer fan so I shall see how well this goes down with her!
The photos don’t quite capture the washed-up, ex-punk scally Constantine should be though it’s certainly a big improvement on the previous effort. The ciggies are gone which is to be expected, hopefully they’ll give him a scouse accent. I’m cautiously optimistic.
Judging by the smoke curling around him in the picture I think Constantine’s famous silk cuts will be present
As far as I’m aware, NBC don’t allow smoking on their shows.
Yeah They’d have to pay a fine every time a cigarette was shown so I doubt we’ll get that but still way better than Keanu!
Typing that previous post has made me actually take notice of the fact this is on NBC. I’m somewhat less optimistic. Hellblazer seems made for AMC or HBO.
