Wendy’s Serves Up A Feast Of Legends In RPG Form!
October 4, 2019 by avernos
Okay, this is somewhat out of left field for everyone but there is no way I could skip past this madness. For those in the US the name Wendy's will be well known, outside of the States it doesn't have much of a brand that I'm aware of, but their latest advertising campaign is right up our collective strasse.
A Wendy's Roleplaying Game
Yes, you heard me. Wendy's have decided that a great ad campaign would be a Fast Food-themed RPG, and make no mistake this hasn't been written on the back of placemat.
The nation of Freshtovia has been the lone beacon of hope in the land of Beef’s Keep for decades. However, the Ice Jester and his rogues gallery of frozen fiends threaten Queen Wendy’s reign of prosperity. Prepare your heroes for adventure.
The RPG in question, Feast of Legends, is a 90 page, full colour book, that is available as a free download The first 20 pages is a character generation, quick start guide and rule book. The character sheets can also be downloaded separately.
It looks like it is based on the d20 OSR license, and as far as a game system goes it's a very simple one to pick up for novices, in fact, it looks like they have skewed the numbers slightly to give your burger adventurers an edge over the competition 😉
The remaining 60 or so pages is actually a 5 chapter campaign to deal with the Ice Jester in the kingdom south of Freshtovia. The book is full of maps from Collin Fogel such as this glorious map of the realms.
There are character illustrations by Alex Lopez throughout the book showing, heroes, villians, and little feature pieces, and I think everyone has to agree that Wendy's have produced one of the most lavish pieces of free marketing I've seen fullstop.
The game itself is full of cheesy dad jokes and fast food references all the way through, it's both a homage and pastiche of take away food, but despite, or perhaps because of this, Feast of Legends is actually a really fun introduction to roleplaying and well worth checking out for the queenly sum of nothing at all.
Enter the realm of Beef ’s Keep, a place filled with
treasure, adventure and the occasional dad joke.
Battle your way through frozen foes and explore
dangerous dungeons. If you are up to the task, glory
awaits. Grab a hamburger and get ready to level up.
Queen Wendy needs you will you answer the call? Now serving order number 163, number 163? Anyone? 163?

Thus might not mean a lot to a lot of people I used to love going to Wendy’s when it was on the Lisburn Road. The blue cheese sauces was divine
I used to work at Wendy’s when I was a teenager, and the blue cheese was good.
What? Did I sleep that long? Is this April 1st already?!
shockingly not. Wacky stuff isn’t it
In a world where KFC releases dating sims on Steam, this is downright sane.
They did what now?
Wait, I don’t want to know
No, you DEFINITELY don’t. I still wish I didn’t.
Does she fight Ronald McDonald as the final boss?
This!!! I need this game now and set up that scene 😀
The villain is the ice jester…make of that what you will
I suppose it was either the Jester or the King that’d be the ultimate villain.
I think falls into true DnD line up where you end up fighting him for Wendy while she is busily running Freshtovia like a fastfood Ozma.
Uhhh…this is…certainly something.
That is what I thought…then about 10 mins later the cogs turned and everything clicked
Erm, why?
why not, it beats a transforming burger in a happy meal
I wasn’t even around when the Happy Meal transformers were out; I really wish I had been.
Target demographic.
Up next: Mountain Dew-colored dice. 😀
That is not a bad thing.
There are some Wendy’s out side of the US, remember going to one in the UK. Do they still have square burgers?
the artwork looks brilliant.
If it floats your boat, okay go for it …..(my personal reaction is ffs)
There must be an over-abundance of time and money here…. wow… I actually thought this was a joke post.
It seems that the chain has grown beyond Smug Wendy and Rule 34 in marketing. Damn, I’m considering creating a Burger Barbarian with his “Tenderizer” or a monk Freshfoyu,Lord of the Fries, without even following that link. Yes, bad jokes are required for something like this. Its so bad that the quality of the cheese makes it awesome (like oh so many 80s films).
I love it to bits, as viral marketing goes it’s deliciously cheesy and it’s also a great little game
Wouldn’t mind seeing a weekly Wendy’s RPG night at Wendy’s. RPG gamers who can’t find a group get to play. and Wendy’s gets an audience on a slow night. Wen-wendy situation. 😀
Are the bad guys “vegans”…!!!
If they are, they will soon tell you!
Not as soon as anti-vegans reminding everyone of vegans tho
This sounds like an April 1st gag…
I watched the ‘Critical Role’ crew try to play this in a One-Shot episode.
It was just tragic!
It hurt to watch good D&D players try to sit thru this ‘want-to-be RPG’.
Sooooo bad………………….
I’ve got to start out with “What in the holy hell?”
So now I wonder how good or awful this thing is. But hell, it is free, so I’ll have a look.
Well the system is essentially D&D and the campaign isn’t taxing it could be a lot of fun for a group not taking themselves super seriously
One of the sidequest threads of our last campaign included a fight with the Marlbaro Man. So we’re probably good.
can’t you just run away from him until he falls over gasping?
Sure, if he weren’t guarding the thing we wanted to attack. I don’t think anyone was convinced that he was going to try and chase us.
This reminds me of the old Brave Fencer Musashi videogame. I remember the two nations at war seemed like they must have started out as rival restaurant chains.
The Thirstquencher Empire vs. the Alucaneet Kingdom.
