Get Weird In ‘Nam With Pulp Figures’ Black Sun Collection
September 28, 2017 by brennon
If you fancy changing things up when it comes to Weird War on the tabletop then why not delve into Black Sun and the collection that has started up from Pulp Figures?
So far they have looked at bringing to life a selection of the key soldiers you'll need for this experience with the US Marines you see here.
They are certainly a lot more 'Heroic' in their style and very much in keeping with the comic book and pulp adventure look that you'd want for this kind of game. They are then matched with some of the Vietcong that may become unwitting allies in your fight against some unknown evil.
Presented here with some more standard soldiers and officer figures you've got the basis for two sides which might end up running into some beast deep in the jungle.
I like the idea of taking Weird War and moving it to a different time period. I think it would be great to see this applied to other eras like Napoleonics and the Medieval period too.
What do you think?

Those are rather good.
I’m a bit confused.. what’s ‘weird’ about them exactly? They just look like 28mm Vietnam minis to me..
My friend came up with an idea a few years ago about aliens in the jungle of Vietnam. The US forces and the Viet Cong or North Vietnamese have to team up to combat the grey aliens. CP models makes some really awesome greys for fairly cheap. It shouldn’t be to hard to find some American and Vietnamese zombies for the aliens to control. The aliens could be fragile physically but employ mind control, psychic powers, re-animated dead bodies (Plan 9 from outer space) complete with GI Tor Johnson (who kind of looks like Private Pyle), etc. Another idea is… Read more »
I forgot to say that my friend’s idea involved aliens, Vietnam, strange crap and lots of marijuana.
a nice range of guys.
Nice. But not different from what’s already out there.
In fact I wish someone would produce a more realistic line of Vietnam war figures..
@suetoniuspaullinus there are some good 20mm figures out there. The best 20mm minis were made by Qualitycast, my opinion of course, but unfortunately they’re not made anymore. If you’re thinking 28mm there’s not a lot.
Liking the US infantry, would be great for Cold War gone hot..especially around the Cuban Missile Crisis
If you like the idea of Weird War Nam you should check out the Tour of Darkness setting for Savage Worlds. It’s a fantastic setting. While you would have to do some updating to make it work with the current edition of SW, it was written for 2nd I believe, it would be well worth it. If nothing else the setting is great for any rules set.

Beat me to mentioning this…
I already have a ton of normal Nam figs but I look forward to what they add weird wise.
They look like the would fit in with West Winds Nam range
I was thinking more Baker Company as they are more heroic and cartoon like. I have both.
Heretic, Pass me my under over. Actually think there should be more or less some rather good pulp stuff to be found in this period or as entertained any period as long as we are not talking the preditor variety, for lorzy sake can we at least have something of a more original beasty type monster thingy please.
