New Washes From Secret Weapon
July 26, 2011 by dracs
Secret Weapon are releasing 10 new washes this July, ready for you to use to give your models that finishing touch.
These washes are now available as part of Secret Weapon's already impressive range of paints and washes and are sure to be just the thing to complete your paint jobs.
yes, who doesnt wanna make their painted miniatures cotton candy colored after hours of painting xD love em, especially the fallout color, great for acid colors
Fallout? Great for radioactive Snotlings too 🙂
Heh. Because the Secret Weapon Washes make such effective glazes for blended shading I actually envisioned some of the new lighter colours being used over white or bone to good effect. It worked on my samples but I haven’t had time to try it on a full model yet.
Fallout was probably the hardest to get right. I must have tested 20 recipes on that one before I was satisfied. Glad you like the finished result 🙂
i love it because im REALLY into poison and acid colors 😀
Is Les Bursley from Awesomepaintjob.com still the one who’s making those for them?
Actually Les stopped making them a long time ago — we’re using his original recipes, with permission, and have added to the line with some of these new colours. You’ll still find Les’ name on the bottles though to give credit where credit is due — even on the new colours we developed in house.
Well that’s cool then.
The washes looks great but i saw their pigments and i was not satisfied with the photos!
Agreed – I need some new pigment photos especially as some of them include pics of the old bottles! Any requests or suggestions as to what you’d like to see in the pics?
Right, one more thing to put on my list… The day you release those square bases, @misterjustin, I’ll order the hell out of your website !

2012 will be the year of the square base 🙂
Those look very nice. I like the blue-black, it has an almost teal look over the white.
Any pland for other colors in the future? I am in the market for a dark indigo/blue-violet wash myself. I mean, I mix it up myself now but my old inks are running low and a pre-mixed wash would be nifty.
We’ll be doing some limited edition colours in the future — but these are the 30 that will roll out on our retail rack to game and hobby shops. Anything else will be a direct only item with a limited number produced. This is most an excuse for me to make my white wash 🙂
I like the idea of a good indigo wash though and I’ll poke around with recipes when I get some free time.
It is appreciated, but I can’t say I like the idea of limited runs on paints. Discontinued paint is why so many people shifted from citadel to vallejo game color in the first place.
But yea, a direct only line would be just fine and I would probably order a white wash along with that indigo, it makes deep glowing parts so much easier if they start out bright.
Speaking of interior glowing parts, that fallout wash should be a big hit with cryx players.
Question. I have a desert theme Im doing and what washes are best for a sand look as well as dry sun faded paint on tanks?
For a desert theme I would actually recommend pigments in place of washes. You could use a wash to create a colour filter on the models, particularly vehicles, to give them a unified, overall weathered and faded look — but your best bet for desert is to go with pigments.
Drop an email to misterjustin at Secret Weapon Miniatures dat com and I’d be happy to give you recommendations using Secret Weapon, MIG or Vallejo pigments.
thanks I’ll contact you for your tips.
These would be fantastic to use as a “highlight wash”. Or for an original looking nid army. The washes do look great, my only question is that are they applied on the sample diluted or undiluted?
Good question.
The samples were applied straight from the bottle — two drops per skull over a smooth layer of white primer.
Is there a UK or European stockist for these?
For the washes – YES! Battlefield Berlin is stocking the washes and I’m on the hunt for a European distributor for the rest of the line 🙂
Oh is there a Canadian stockest as well?
None yet – that I know of anyway. My distributors might be shipping to someone in Canada but word hasn’t reached me. I’m often the last to know 🙂
