The Chieftain of Warzone’s Wolfbanes Comes to Salute
March 30, 2015 by dracs
Last week, Prodos previewed the Wolfbanes, a new close combat squad for the Imperials of Warzone Resurrection. Yet as imposing as they are they pale in comparison to their leader, who Prodos will be bringing with them to Salute this year.
High Chieftain Morten Oakenfist is a former Warhound. With his massive hammer and wild appearance, he is the epitome of everything that characterises the Wolfbanes.
Even in these small glimpses we get of the character, it is easy to tell that Prodos have come up with something entirely new for him. He stands out from all the other heroes who have so far appeared and even from among the rest of the Imperials. Morten is sure to be a smashing hit (badum tsh) when he appears at Salute 2015.
Are you an Imperial player? Would you pick up High Chieftain Morten Oakenfist, or does he not match with your play style?

He does not really give me Imperial vibe. He is more like scifi Thor.
Think they got wolfbanes confused with space wolves .. i know they carried swords in the last edition but nothing as silly as an ingraved warhammer … why make 40k knockoffs if its not even done in the same scale? Just silly some of these imperial releases imo
Guess you are not too up on your WZR fluff Hatamoto. Wolfbanes ( and the variant called Warhounds – this guy) have been around since the early 90s. They look awesome
Youre absolutely right, these guys had warhammers … It didnt look good then and it doesnt look good now though.

It was a blatant 40k knockoff even back then, wich can be said about alot of MC features of course. But MC and WZ got alot of things right too by being original. These guys are not one of those imo.
I think that to say that a Viking-esque military force is surely knocking off Vikings, not knocking off something that is knocking off Vikings. In other words both these guys and SM from 40k (and GW Norse for that matter) are all taking from Vikings. Really if you want to accuse anything from knocking off something else maybe you should also look at all of GW stuff , only Skaven and SM are truely novel (and well done them), Same goes for MC/WZ – most is inspired by popular culture or archetypes, but they too have some novel. The WB… Read more »
Having played the original Mutant rpg in all its incarnations i know Mutant: RYMD desperatly wanted to be 40k, and became more so with the release of chronicles. What i mean is there are ideas for the original chronicles taken almost straight from 40k (because target games attempted to challenge GW and saw their success on the market) and then there is some very cool chronicles unique content. What i like about chronicles is the fire-arms have retained a sort of realism to them even though they are in fact impractical and over the top. btw the clansmen were supposed… Read more »
