I think they look good. I know there was lots of disappointment about them when the painted shots came up, especially about them being based on the fantasy orcs, but I do think the paint job, particularly the bright green, did them no favours. Given these things will be in blocks of 20 anyway, to me, the overall effect rather than individual models is what counts, and they seem to do the job well enough to my eye. I nice earthy brown/green skin colour and some dark toned armour would suit them better than bright green and red I think,… Read more »
I paint my Orcs using a colour called Stone Green from Miniature paints, it’s a fantastic grey-green colour and just right for D&D Orc flesh (which are grey, not green) and GW Orcs (which are green, not grey).
You can check out the range of Miniature paints on Ral Partha Europe: http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/9-stone-green-p-1613.html?zenid=ns0qseibi8k6q4llresppfrt67
I love them… which reminds me… I’ll have to get Romain to do a review.
Still like them – will still be buying some 🙂
They look bad ass to me of the price point is good I so Orx’s it up.
As i said in the last orx page, i think they look great. They are going to be a great deal. The showcase painting was meh, but the actual models themselves are very much something to look forward to.
I am slowly saving money in hopes to buy the starter set, that is of course unless i win one through you guys 😀
They look much better unpainted. No disrespect for Mantic’s painter, but a good paint job really does make the first impression. There’s a reason why those Infinity minis always look stunning, a good paint job goes a long way.
like them, but I keep looking at their feet for some reason 😛 perhaps that is why they don’t wear boots. It makes their enemies say “oow look at their toots…..Owww there’s an axe in my head….Arrgghh” those sneeky pesky orxs!!!! 😀
I think the Orx are fans of the movie Die Hard.
Agreed, these shots look loads better than the painted models we saw before.
These models appear to have more armoured shoulder pads etc, than the painted previews we saw earlier. I do not think the colour scheme in the painted models is the problem. The actual models and the reuse of fantasy molds were problems. I don’t think seeing these guys unpainted is more, or less helpful, it’s a different perspective but incomplete. These pictures look like they’ve been given more “bits” to hide the fantasy torso quite frankly but I don’t want to judge until Andy and the others have reviewed them. The pictures above ‘hide’ the fantasy torsos, as does Mantic’s… Read more »
I ain’t Lord Lichfield, but I certainly didn’t try to “hide” any details.
I simply took the pictures of some of the assembled models… there will be more on TURN 8 tonight. With some GW Orks to show scale… along with the Orc hero.
I stand corrected! My apologies for implying skulduggery.
Mantic employing friends to save the day. the torso is out of view in these shots, as they were the other day on the mantic blog. Im sorry, they are not good enough. If the basic forgefathers get the same treatment I will not be happy. Im never this harsh, ive never commented negatively on any blog or facebook page before, but I feel let down and these are simply not good enough. Mantic should have confirmed in advance that these would be conversions……..yes thats what they are, regardless of the sci bits being on the same sprue as the… Read more »
BoW Andy said these are his photos (off the cuff?), rather than photos sent to him by mantic etc. I think he was going for a super hero sort of pose: League of Orks UNITE!
I like them like this much better then with paint. Interesting.
