Warlord Games Detail What’s Inside Project Z
February 20, 2016 by brennon
Warlord Games have put together a big preview piece on exactly what's going to be coming as part of Project Z. We'll kick things off with a look at what's going to be within the main game...
Inside this set you get enough for three players to get going in the game...
- 23x Zombies
- 10x Male Survivors
- 6x Biker Gangers (inc. 2 motorbikes)
- Plus rules, dice, cards and counters
...however that's not all. There is some additional content coming your way with a bunch of plastic sets which include a range of different gangs and groups of survivors.
Of course one of the first things you're probably going to want is some zombies. This pack comes with twenty three more models that will be shambling around the city streets.
Survivors are then on the cards with the addition of these Special Operations soldiers as well as Male Survivors, Female Survivors, and a Biker Gang. I think I'd rather be the professionals with the high powered weapons and buckets of training.
I could see this being a good thing for a bunch of friends to pick up and play. You snap up the models, paint them up together, and get stuck into the game. It looks like it will be reliably supported as well which is exactly what you want.
Will you be keeping an eye out for this?

Zombie bikers, that’s what we need now!
I think the market is a bit saturated with zombie games and I guess this will be a direct competitor foe Mantic’s All Out War.
It’ll be interesting to see how they compare. I already have a million Zombicide zombies so I don’t really need any more but I guess it can’t help.
This will hit the market before All Out War but doesn’t have the IP to back it up.
I’m pretty excited by this one.
@sniperbait I am assuming you like the Zombicide stuff? I have been looking at them on eBay and they look great. How are your mounted? Just the regular bas or did you add soething to them?
The write up on the Warlord site states it’s for 1 to 3 players which means it’s an AI deck for the zombies. Superb.
This looks awesome….really awesome. Warlord have a pre-order deal on their site – 110 quid for the core game and the 5 expansion sets. Great value in my opinion. Now the question is do I cancel my mantic TWD pledge and opt for this instead, or do I go for both. If I go for both then my family will starve for a month, we will have to start burning the furniture for heat and I may have to resort to mugging pensioners (again….I promised myself after the Deadzone KS I would never do this again). So on one hand… Read more »
@waywarddarkwolf You can go for a week without food but there’s never enough zombies!
this looks awesome… but i need to see the rules first before going in
This is gonna be great!
I love multipart plastics and one can’t have enough Zeds after all.
yeah that’s the thing
plus it’s got bikers that’s a seriously cool feature.
Even if the game isn’t fun then there’s enough stuff in there to help in other games that feature zombies/walkers.
I will go for this instead of The Walking Dead mainly for the solo rules and for the very different type of survivors, bikers with bikes, special ops teams, it really looks good, hope the rules will be good as the minis
I find a pre-order like this quite annoying. How many people would invest in a car only based on how it look without testing how it actually drives? ProjectZ seems to have very nice miniatures, yes, but what about the gameplay? Miniatures are the eye-candy that creates the initial excitement, but it is the flavour of the gameplay that determines whether or not you will actually get those miniatures on the table on a regular basis. Companies should also focus on providing details on gameplay when putting up pre-orders. I guess that is my point here. At least for those… Read more »
yup.
At this point the TWD kickstarter has the better info (= the play test vid + free beta rules)
ProjectZ only has the models, which do look very cool especially the fact that they don’t have any duplicate zombie variants.
That’s why I usually don’t pre-order unless I’m absolutely certain I want the game/minis. But it seems to be a quite popular practice nowadays.
Looks awesome but I have heaps of those male and female survivors. Now the biker and spec ops survivors I Def want. But I’ll Prob hope for them to be available separately
We need a game where players play survivors of the zombie game apocalypse and you have to fight off all the zombie games out there…
I’m really very interested in this, strongly considering the pre-order deal. But, I think some information concerning gameplay would be greatly appreciated.
I actually did cancel my walking dead kickstarter in part because I knew this was coming out soon, but also because the sculpts and the rules just didn’t do a whole lot for me as more information started getting out. I never got around to buying the wargames factory survivor packs, so I am interested to see how warlord will choose to price them. This seems like a pretty good use of them really and I am holding out on a pre-order for now since I don’t know much about the rules yet and there really isn’t a pre-order exclusive… Read more »
@warlordgamesrich can you shed some light on whether there will be any game play videos/quick start rules pdf/reviews available before the pre order ends?
love the figures.
I just bought the original 3 Wargames Factory boxes (suvivor males, suvivor femals, zombie females).
96 Minis for $66.
From Warlord Games with the Bundle Offer, you pay $159 for 97 Minis.
Sure it includes gaming material and rules, but i do not understand the extreme high price increase.
Ah, but did you get the motorcycle gang? It does seem higher but they are not the same figures as far as I can tell. Also, it would depend on where you have purchased your figures. As with most companies, warlord cannot offer their figures for less than independent online game stores. For example, they offer 15% off 3 resin vehicles if purchased together as part of a special offer but online stores offer 20% as their normal price. I agree the wargames factory figures are cheap (and pretty good) but it’s not fair to compare 2 different products. That… Read more »
It is not a different product. There are new minis are added, but the male and female survivors and female zombies didn’t change. New are male zombies (absolutely necessary), bikers and soldiers.
I have no problem if they make the packages smaller. Not everyone need 30-36 minis. But this is no reason for a so huge price increase.
I had a quick look at the rules yesterday whilst at the new ‘Beachhead’ show in Bournemouth (excellent by the way), as one of the designers ‘Chez’ (I think?) was on the Warlord stand. He only had prototypes of the books (no mini’s) but I signed up for the pre-order on the spot. It seems light, playable and fun, there is also an element of ‘hand management’. Really, I don’t want to give too much away, but I think that it will be a good use for all the zombicide and studio mini’s without massive additional investment. Add the Battlesystems… Read more »
I saw the battlesystems urban set at last year’s Salute and was very impressed. Cmon, spill the beans… Please. ..
@teskal I see what you mean. So I guess 1 sprue of each rather than 3 or so.
I assume all the bits like the rule book, templates, dice, cards and so on will be available separately so perhaps I’ll wait for that and pick and choose what I get (I’ll get less grief off the Mrs too).

Thanks for the comments and feedback, guys – we’re very excited about this one… Gameplay-wise – it’s very fast and action-packed… I’m angling to get a gameplay video shot in the coming weeks… probably a full Battle Report… I’ll keep you guys posted. Plenty more info/pics coming on the build-up to release… and yes, I believe there is space set-aside at Salute for a demo table, where you’ll be able to get hands-on with the game. On a slight side-note… I’m loving the WGF kits… having great fun combining their Zombie sprue components with some of our Bolt Action sprues… Read more »
Great news about the battle report. I’m really looking forward to the game, positively giddy in fact. Hope the game goes down well at Salute.
