October Sees Warlord Games Release Black Powder 2nd Edition
August 13, 2018 by brennon
Warlord Games will be releasing a new edition of Black Powder in October!
Black Powder is a rule set for those who love exploring the likes of Waterloo and the Napoleonic-era as well as the American Civil War and War Of Independence to name just a few theatres of war.
The new rules will be accompanied by a new Starter Set based around Waterloo giving you some British and French forces to duke it out with.
If you want an early look at the game and to get your book signed by Rick Priestley you will have to head along to the Warlord Games Open Day on the 22nd, September!
Will you be snapping this up?

I presume this was one of the reasons why they were giving away the digital downloads last month Be interesting to see if there any major changes or just updating some errata
Makes sense, but it was a nice gesture all the same. Very curious as to the changes, I don’t think I can remember the last time I had a ‘pure’ game of Black Powder on account of the sheer weight of house-rules knocking about these days…
just in time for my birthday – nice one! Definitely have to get down to the Open Day off the back of this announcement…
I read that the existing supliments will still be valid with the new edition. Probably similar to the switch to Bolt Action 2nd. I saw this announced in last weeks Warlord newsletter. Then over the weekend I watched a couple documentaries on Napoleon. As typically happens with me, either on their own would be fine but two or three things in a row is enough to push me over the precipice. I dug out my copies of Perry’s Travel Battle 8mm Napoleonic Wargame and now I’ve set aside Kill Team and planning a whole 8/10 mm setup for the new… Read more »
I’m happy there will be no apparent impact on the supplements. Of course I will buy it; just hoping to get some info on where the rule adjustments will fall.
had a airfix Waterloo game as a kid I liked so this is going into the perhaps column.
This does look interesting and as people have commented it rather explains the PDF of 1st Edn going for free a while back. Hopefully it will be an errata inclusive book with some new battle reports as I can’t really see how much they can change or fix in what is after all a ‘toolbox’ ruleset (and our own go-to system for battles of AWI, ACW, AZW, Sudan at the Battalion or Company level..
Will prob pick up a copy for the group just to check 🙂
Interesting. Only just read through the Black Powder ruleset last month so get a general sense of what it entails.
That really is a lovely book cover. Avoided it so far, but asking for a friend, how small a forces makes for a decent game experience
@dags I find you can get a decent game from just a couple of brigades a side. Can play with a brigade a piece but I like the extra variety – my British Intervention Force for the American Civil War currently consists of three brigades (10 regiments of infantry, four of cavalry, split to form brigades of roughly four regiments a piece). Sounds like a fair amount but I’m constrained for space at home for anything larger than a six by four table (which would normally be too small). I’ve got round this by having battalions of 15-18 figures (or… Read more »
Thanks @bigdave that is a really helpful, and I like the idea of unit reduction you have mentioned. Hmmm really tempted
yaay! pre-ordered at a minute passed 4, tad keen on getting a signed copy…
