Wargames Illustrated Stake Their Claim to Van Helsing
November 18, 2019 by avernos
Wargames Illustrated have shown off Decembers Giant In Miniature and this time it's a Dr Van Helsing, who is striking a very familiar pose to me.
Abraham Van Helsing is a scholar of evil, who hunts down and destroys the undead, the creatures of the night which prey upon humanity in their quest for blood. To Van Helsing, the vampire is a hell-borne travesty of the person it once was, a soulless killing machine. His greatest foe is the foul Dracula, one of the most depraved of an evil race, who is happy to take any life, young or old, to nourish himself and satisfy his malicious need to corrupt the innocents he encounters. Van Helsing himself is ruthless, protected by his Faith and the knowledge he has gathered, sacrificing his own happiness in pursuit of the Dark Forces which plague the world.
This is another gorgeous miniature from WI and it portrays both the feel of Dr Van Helsing along with the actor himself, Peter Cushing, from the iconic final confrontation with the Count in Carfax Abbey. Making a diorama should be very easy as for the undead you only need some ash grey pigment powder and you're done 😀
Apart from the fearless vampire killer Wargames Illustrated have a competition on, it's only available to Prime members, but it is to nominate your candidate to be the next Giant in Miniature .
We’re offering WIPrime members the opportunity to choose a favourite character from military history to become a future Giant in Miniature (GiM) figure. We produce one new GiM every month, and in 2020 we would like one of our figures to be chosen by you. In order to be worthy of ‘giant’ status, your choice should have an interesting backstory, be of unique or characterful appearance and appeal to other wargamers.
So if you have a character who you think would make a great miniature, Capt McCabe, with an interesting backstory, Capt McCabe, then you should go ahead and nominate Capt McCabe to be an upcoming GIM.
What is it you like most about Capt Bernard McCabe?

I could be wrong but isn’t that Nicolas Cage!
Nick Coppola you say?
No I think you’re fine
Candle sticks for crucifix! Awesome mini. Might have to get this one to add to the others I have unpainted.
If Captain McCabe does get chosen (Iron Duke Miniatures might be worth pestering), I’d go for Lachhiman Gurung – his story is worth a google and might be an interesting sculpt.
One of my favourite Horror Movies Peter Cushing is an excellent Doctor Van Helsing.
This one is definitely going in my collection.
so that makes Saruman as Dracula?
Nah, Count Dooku mini from SW Legion – far easier to shave than Saruman. 😉
Grey pigment powder that’s all you need
Lol.
I like the sculpt.
Your blog post is very impressive, I almost read all the posts you
