Wargames Atlantic Preview Their New WWI Russian Plastics
April 15, 2022 by avernos
The folks over at Wargames Atlantic continue their relentless march to cover all of history in plastic as the range expands faster than my waistline. This time around they've shown off the first prototypes for the early 20th century Russians painted by Jason Frowde of Painting Knights.
Wargames Atlantic // Russians
This is a quite versatile set allowing you to build Russians for WWI, the Russo-Japanese War, and the Boxer Rebellion. This set can be used for not only those three conflicts but into the Russian Civil War. That said, the bodies do have shoulder boards so they would be suitable as "Whites" but with a quick trim and adding budenovka caps you will get your "Reds" as well.
So far we had only seen the renders of the individual pieces so now we have an idea of how the physical miniatures will look and I have to say they're looking excellent. Being involved in so many conflicts in the early 1900s makes them a very welcome addition to the Great War range, especially for those looking to pick up nations involved in the Boxer rebellion to face those recently released figures.
The set is still some way off as they are prepping the layout of the sprue for tooling but the prototypes give an excellent idea of what you can make with the sprue, as always there will be enough head options to completely kit out your units in the same headwear with the WWI gasmask variant as well. I imagine that there will also be a light machine gun to have the set be on par with the French and Germans that are already out. These will definitely be going on order for Blood & Valor projects when they come out and I'm glad to see that they have included some of the Adrian helmets from France as well to save me having to steal from the French!
What do you think of the growing range?

Fantastic ?
Nice models. Woukd be nice to see one head with the rectangular respirator for the gas mask if they haven’t already included it. But it’s a very minor quibble
they are the rectangular ones. Not seen the full sprue or even all of the renders so not sure if they’ve included the cylinders, they did include various types for the French so it’s a possibility
My eye sight is worse than I thought
happens to us all
Ooh they look fabulous figures.
Schweet. WA filling another hole underrepresented with plastics. Now do I want to go WW1 eastern front? I might one day.
come and join us in China for a boxer match
Don’t tempt me. Oh that’s what you do
Very nice I believe Japanese for the same era are in the pipeline too. It’s a genre that does appeal to me.
Did they ever release the British box? I saw it previewed but not ever for sale
