Victrix Take Aim With Upcoming Norman Crossbowmen
November 3, 2022 by brennon
Victrix has dropped a quick update noting that they are going to be releasing a new set of Normans for you to use in your 28mm Dark Age wargames. Take a peek at some of the first Crossbowmen miniatures...
Norman Crossbowmen // Victrix
Pick off dastardly Saxons as they try and flee with these deadly Crossbowmen. The set will feature frames of six miniatures per-sprue with armoured and unarmoured variants on each. You'll also have head and arm options covering the Normans, Spanish, Early Crusades and more.

There will also reportedly be some Hundred Years War heads and helmets in the mix and attachments for the end of the crossbows to match that period. It hasn't been announced if the set is going to be twenty-four miniatures or thirty-six but I'm sure that a lot of folks would probably want the twenty-four one more. It would suit a lot of gaming systems.
Norman Crossbowmen #2 // Victrix
This is just another of the big previews from Victrix for the Dark Age period and helps to broaden an already rather awesome range. If you're looking to start an army of Vikings, Saxons or Normans then their miniatures would certainly be my starting point. It's good that the triumvirate of "Dark Age Armies" has been so well catered for.
Additional miniatures coming in the future include their Norman Cavalry!

Ooh great looking figures for gamers.
On reading the Facebook page entry, it sounds like they are planning on these being suitable for anything up to and including the 100 years war (with the addition on various heads). No images of the unarmoured versions yet (and if you are doing 100 years war we’ll need some pavises from somewhere).
The Norman and Dark Age kits from Victrix recently have been excellent, and this is looking to be no exception.
Victrix has indeed been doing wonderful work with the ‘triumvirate’ as you’ve called them—Saxons, Normans, and Vikings—and while it’s possible to use those figures for a wider array of the era’s cultures (e.g. Anglo-Danes, Bretons, Carolingians, Andalusians, early Crusaders), I’d really like to see them branch out to cover the period’s ‘other’ trio, which has not been nearly so well-served in miniature form: Welsh, Irish, and Scots/Picts.
Wargames Atlantic has done a pretty nice box of Irishmen, but the only other plastics currently available for the other two are Gripping Beast’s loathsome balloon-limbed hunchbacks. Victrix’s quality is really unparalleled, so here’s hoping!
