Victoria Miniatures Get Tanked Up
March 10, 2014 by dracs
Victoria Miniatures are working on what has to be their biggest project yet; a fully armoured sci-fi tank!
This tank, designated as "Matilda", stands at about the same size as a 40k Leman Russ tank and will come with interchangeable tracks in the resin kit.
This is Victoria's first attempt at a large scale vehicle and so far I think the design looks promising. It looks a little thin and narrow, but that could be more of a perspective thing.
How do you think this tank will fare on the battlefield?
Most realistic tanks are more narrow than GW portrays them. If you’ve ordered any of Victoria Miniatures’ stuff, it tends to be more on the realistic side of scale. At that point though, one does wonder why you wouldn’t simply purchase a 1/48 scale Matilda (the actual tank from WWII).
I do find it exciting that they are branching out though.. I haven’t regretted anything I’ve gotten from VM.
I get confused when I see WW1 and WW2 type designs in a sci-fi setting. It may be an attractive mini and well made but retro has been done to death in the past 30 years or so.
So have been zombies, and people gush whenever new zombie comes out, so clearly being old cliche isn’t anything bad.
Eh.. it’s not really different from Victorian Sci-Fi, Steampunk, etc.. Two things though.. 1. Don’t forget, the 41st millennium is a long ways off and the premise is that it’s so far off that we had all of these amazing breakthroughs and then screwed it all up. We are currently in the third millennium on Earth.. so that’s a really really long time. 2. GW is all about milking tropes.. none of the “setting” actually matters.. it’s just a sill setting so they can justify throwing in whatever they think is cool. Victoria Miniatures makes beautiful kits but they tend… Read more »
Add wi-fi. There you go, it’s sci-fi now.
Just remember, the greatest (ignore finale) sci-fi show ever made, the Battlestar Galactica reboot … they used good old fashion bullets and nukes.
You mean the 3rd best? Cause B5 is still the best show, and actually ended fairly well, unlike certain reboot.
aw damn you are right
you mean kinetic energy delivery instruments and tactical nuclear fission cascade devices? ‘can’t find anything non sci-fi in that 🙂
