New Bitz! Victoria Miniatures’ Border World Rangers
June 8, 2021 by brennon
Victoria Miniatures has put together some new 28mm bitz for those wanting to build up their own force of Border World Rangers for use in your Sci-Fi wargames.
Border World Rangers // Victoria Miniatures
This particular range of miniatures was updated this month allowing you to dive back in with a ragtag band of soldiers who prefer to keep themselves to the shadows. You could say that they are like ghosts, drifting in and out of the fighting to where they are most needed.
The new set of bitz allows you to build a ten-man squad although you could tinker and change this with your own box of goodies too.

They come with a range of different weapons, pose options and of course those billowing cloaks. Whilst this is a full male squad, there is also going to be a female squad later on this year for those who want to do more mixing and matching.
Whilst you can pick up the full pack of ten miniatures as you can see here, you can also buy all of the components separately if you prefer.

This looks like a neat alternative for those who want to dive in and build up a larger grimdark ghost force on the tabletop. Victoria Miniatures has always done a great job of building up the oft unloved Astra Militarum range by Games Workshop and this is no different.
Are you tempted to snap up this squad and drop them into your army?

Border World Rangers – looking more like Gaunt’s Ghosts then the G’Wullu ones 😉 (At least how I imagined them after reading the books way back)
They look almost exactly the same as the GW ones, like you could probably mix these in with the upcoming GW ones and they wouldn’t look out of place.
This makes me sad. Not the minis but that there are so many third party companies making better IG models than the company that invented them in the first place. On the bright side gives players a lot of choice. When I finally get round to my Praetorian force I’ll have plenty of companies to buy from.
Even down to the dagger emblem – First and Only.
These would make a great supplement to the new GW set for anyone looking to build a full force. A few female heads would be good too
The website has tons of bits including loads of female heads, accessories, weapons etc – so much choice
Vic Minis have a great selection of female heads going, and for my own take on the Tanith 1st I did a big order last year inspired by the art in the latest version of the Sabbat Worlds Crusade book of the looks of the Tanith, Verghast & Belladon elements of the regiment: Ordered some squads of both their male & female Victorian & Arcadian Guard as well as the Border World Rangers, plus a load of camo cloaks and bare female heads (and I had a load of Statuesque Minis beret heads from another project to hand) It’s a… Read more »
That’s exactly what I was thinking. If you really wanted a Tanith squad you could use these and mix the GW ones in if you want the specific characters from the books
They are really nice it is a pity they dont have a UK / European sales channel buying these you have to factor in shipping, vat, import duty and import admin fees.
I understand how the people in the upsidedown part of the planet feel now.
I’d definitely welcome a UK/EU distributor but I have had a couple of orders from Victoria and they are pretty dashed quick. Give em a whirl.
It’s almost like this is Victoria Miniatures’ response to GW’s attempt to offer upgrade sprue over making brand new IG kit by showing how it’s done.
As good as Victoria Miniatures are, they’re kind of a one trick pony – they just make alternative Imperial Guard. GW maintains a HUGE product catalogue as it is with two variants of Imperial Guard. It’s not really anyone showing anyone else how anything is done. It’s just two companies with very different product catalogues.
A fabulous looking set of figures to add scouts an snipers to futuristic army fighters. Or a great set for the ghosts?
My son has a set of these. They are fantastic and the customer service is excellent.
GW: “We’ll release a few ‘new’ models for Gaunt’s Ghosts and an upgrade sprue…for the Cadians. That will satisfy the Guard players right?”
Victoria: “Hold my beer.”
Great timing! Seriously tempted to start a new Tanith First and Only army if I can get hold of the new plastic, the bulk of the force will be coming from here to be sure…
