A Vampire Lord Is Resurrected By MomMiniaturas
January 23, 2016 by brennon
MomMiniaturas have shared another of their work-in-progress sculpts for upcoming heroes in their Fantasy range. Here we have their go at a Vampire Lord for your undead legions.
If you can make it out it looks like the Vampire is holding something up before his eyes, maybe a heart, and is slowly draining its blood into his mouth as power surges around him. As you can see by the over the top cloak it looks like this has given him quite the boost as unnatural magical winds pull at him.
What do you think of this beast?

But why? It is obvious that the sculptor is talented, so why so excessive? “Less is more” does not seem to be the trend in miniatures right now, and I cannot really understand why. The number of sculpts going from “cool” to “silly” that I have seen recently makes me wonder why this style seems to sell… are people purchasing this and actually paint it? Or just purchase, basecoat, and put it in the to do cabinet… (I do that also by the way…. in my case WW2 tanks).
I think it is in this case over the top in a non-modern sense. It is not sculpted with lots of fiddly bits which is possible nowadays dude to molding technology. It is OT only in regards to the cloak which is how sculptors made things stand on in the 90’s; I believe this is a direct reference to those citadel miniatures and a lovely piece of sculpting and nostalgia to those simpler times.
*due* not “dude” btw lol
You know, I bet that ‘less is more’ is one of the reason of the great success of Frostgrave. Beside the ’80s style rules the miniatures for Frostgrave are reminiscent of a Fantasy style which is not trending anymore but that so many are in love with
Fun you say that, I supported the recent Nickstarter and also got the first plastic soldier kit and enjoyed painting a small band up. The painting went fast but with a satisfying amount of detail, well balanced figures.
Doesn’t help that it’s highly reminiscent of GW’s Vlad from Carstein. I’m sure the sculptor could have done an armoured vampire that would have looked unique, but choosing this pose, style of armour, etc just makes it look derivative. :/
Odd. Most of their stuff is beautiful, and much simpler. I would like to see this painted before I pass judgement.
Yep!
I just wonder why hes screaming at his fist.
He cut himself on his armour.
