The U-Wing & TIE Striker Swoop Into FFG’s X-Wing
September 7, 2016 by brennon
Two new ships are joining the fleet of options now available to you in Fantasy Flight Games' X-Wing. We're starting with the U-Wing featured as part of Rogue One, the new film coming at the end of this year.
"In the U-wing Expansion Pack, X-Wing fans will find not only a new large-base Rebel ship, but a whole collection of remarkable pilots and crew members that evoke the Rebel spirit.
Four ship cards and fourteen upgrades introduce versions of Jyn Erso , Cassian Andor , plus several other notable characters from Rogue One."
The ship design here is very cool indeed. I like the big engines and the positioning of the wings. It has a familiar 'human' look to it but with a bit of an alien twist to make it stand out on the tabletop.
As well as the Rebel ship the TIE Striker is also coming soon.
"Although it can function in space, the TIE striker was designed primarily for use in atmosphere and features a sleek profile with an extended cockpit and advanced high-speed wings."
Another great looking TIE ship and also great for those of us who enjoy our atmospheric dogfighting! Maybe the makers of Rogue One enjoyed our Battle On Endor so much that they wanted to continue showing off what these ships could do.
More Ships!
Additionally there are more ships on the way too.
Here we have, from left to right, the Quadjumper, Sabine’s TIE fighter, U-wing, TIE striker, and the Upsilon-class shuttle. All very awesome looking and it will be fun to see how they play on the tabletop when they get released.
What do you think of these new ships?

Both new ships are really nice.
Wow, considering how much I liked wave 9, wave 10 has sure turned out to be a stinker. Aesthetically, the two Ties are.. okay. Each is.. JASDTF (Just Another Slightly Different Tie Fighter) but to my eye, the others are faithful reproductions of awful looking ships. They may play well, but if they came with crummy upgrade cards I would happily skip this wave altogether …but FFG are far too canny to do something like that.
Damn it. Sometimes I feel my love of Star Wars is being exploited..
agree,
Those are lovely. Why do I like the Quadjumper so much?
Oh! And the U-Wing had me confused, because it didn’t look like what I recognized from the Rogue One trailer, but then I figured out the swept wing design, where the front spars turn into trailing wings. That’s sexy.
I think they are decent models – lets face it, look at the WW2 fighter planes and the basic mantra was low wing, single engine, single-seater and they made several hundred thousand of them! I am sure there will be all sorts of skulduggery in the cards too so I have ordered mine already.
STAR WARS so thumbs up by default.
x-wing is great but I have been drifting away from everything but the RPG of late.
It upsets my sensibilities having characters that would never meet in the STAR WARS universe fighting on the regular .
I know its anal but I just can’t help it.
nice ships the bat wing shuttle looks great
Saved! – I was going to paint Sabine’s Tie Fighter 🙂
I hope these come out before the film!
