The Drowned Earth To Unleash The Yuttaraptors On You Soon!
April 26, 2017 by brennon
If you've been checking out The Drowned Earth then you'll know they've been powering through stretch goals for their Kickstarter Campaign. Currently, they've unlocked the rather awesome mounted version of Nix...
Considering I just watched Jurassic World last night I'm totally in the mood for dinosaurs and it was awesome seeing this character come to life. They've got a great mix of the Fantastical mixed in here with some really nice dinosaur designs which awaken the kid in everyone.
As the title mentioned they are also looking to unlocked the Yuttaraptors soon too as part of the game.
The temptation to paint one of them up as Blue from Jurassic World is strong. You could really go to town on these and get bright colours mixed into their feather crests and contrast it nicely with a more mottled looking body.
Have you backed The Drowned Earth yet?

Super good looking stuff!!! I love the idea of the various dinosaurs being available for each faction… that said, I also kinda wonder if they might turn on their handlers =p
One thing I’m surprised we aren’t seeing yet are ‘generic troopers’… it looked to me like the beta rules talked about non-named models (vs all the named characters in the starter sets) and I totally thought we’d see those mixed in with the dinosaur models…
@Brennon I may have to stop reading you posts, you need a wallet health advisory notice.
So tempted by this, I have a few bits on the rules I am not hugely keen on but damn the models are beautiful – Mounted Nix is a genuinely one of the most appealing models I have seen this year.
What is it about the rules you aren’t keen on? I know they are still in beta so now’s the time to speak up as maybe you can fix a problem before it hits hard-copy!!!!
@jahatch82 the reaction system, it seems t have the same issues I have with infinity – mind you I did hear infinity had refined theirs, listening to James on flock and awe they seem integral to his idea. Nothing wrong with them as such just not a mechanism I enjoy
The Reaction System in Drowned Earth seems much more toned down… you are limited to the # of reactions (as they cost Action Tokens) and it seems like one important part of the tactics is going to be whether to leave Action Tokens on models (or how to move action tokens with your leader to set up Reactions)… so it’s in interesting mix IMHO because they are defensive and offensive but limited in nature… I do need to do more playtesting (like if one side sits back and tries to just use Reactions does it make for a boring game… Read more »
great looking dinos in a game is always a bonus in my books.
just as cool and characterful as the rest of the sculpts.
This looks like fun and the models are great! But I’m totally turn off by the add ons. I think all but one are not true “add ons” at all, but packages or minis that become available…for additional purchase. The numerous free add ons are what make so many of these games on Kickstarter such amazing deals.
I think this is more of a Kickstarter Issue than a Drowned Earth issue…. too many big companies (cough, Mantic, cough CMON, cough Megacon) have made ‘stretch goals’ the only reason to support their KS… while smaller companies can’t afford to give away everything for free and then people don’t want to back them on KS because the ‘deal isn’t the same’… IMHO (and it is just my opinion) for these smaller campaigns (that aren’t going to reach $100,000 +) you are supporting a small and new game with your $ vs just getting a great deal… Also, personally, I… Read more »
@graveyman that is the difference between a kickstarter to make a project a reality, which would not happen without the kickstarter, and an established companies pre-order. This is what Kickstarter was conceived to do, not sell a few thousand units with money upfront and no risk. Its why you do get the saving on CMON and Mantic.
Everyone loves free stuff but I totally understand why that is not happening here.
