Union Skirmishers Join The Fighting From Perry Miniatures
October 14, 2016 by brennon
Perry Miniatures continue to preview what's coming for their American Civil War range. This time, they're focusing in on the Union Skirmishers.
As you can see you're provided with all manner of interesting components with which to build your Union troops. While the Civil War is something we've never explored it's starting to fascinate us!
You can see them all arrayed in a few different ways using both forage caps and slouch hats to give them slightly different looks. There's an attention to detail here which the Perry Twins are masters at.
The sprue gives you an idea of how they'll look when they come in the box too.
Now the real problem is where do you go from here? Once you've picked up this much plastic you need to find a set of rules to play with.
What would you folks suggest?

Fire and Fury was a great rule set when we played many a year ago but that was with Old Glory 15mm minis. Warlord have the Black Powder rules which include ACW and I think you can get a supplement to the Rank and File rules (Crusader Publishing) that adds ACW although I have tried neither. Do the Warhammer Ancients rules have anything?
The Perry ACW box set from last year had a ton of plastics including cavalry and artillery. It also came with a small simple ruleset to get you started.
By the way, read the descriptions for the sprue!
Black Powder/ Glory, Hallelujah!
Would be my choice..
Is it any good?
I use Black Powder for the American Revolution so the game works a little differently for me compared to how I imagine it does for the Civil War. That said, I like it well enough, and my biggest criticism is its informal writing style makes it a little difficult for a complete novice to horse and musket, like me, to understand. Black Powder isn’t an overly complex game, but if you have never played any kind of rank and flank style game it can be hard to conceptualize the rules. Doubly so when you consider it is a toolbox rule… Read more »
Longstreet for us.
I still like both versions of Fire and Fury
If you just want to get in a skirmish level games I would suggest Brother Against Brother. It’s a nice set of rules.
good looking troops.
Nothing you stopping you using these as Confederates just a paint scheme. Sharpes Practice would be an awesome Ruleset to use these with
This looks real nice.
Well I think I was able to resist pre ordering these for 5 days, a new record maybe. Glory Hallelujah has been an impressive addition to Black Powder, it’s a good book for getting the right atmosphere
Sharp Practice. 1 box would do a good proportion of a force.
