Titan Forge Ready The Naginata Of Their Next Foot Troops
May 22, 2016 by dracs
Titan Forge have previewed another infantry unit that they will be bringing to their next Kickstarter, an infantry squad wielding the famous Japanese pole arms.
Spear wielders like these formed the backbone of feudal Japanese armies. The spears in question are known as naginata and were the favoured weapons for both samurai and ashigaru (standard foot soldiers).
Judging by their rather less flamboyant equipment and the straw hats, I would guess these troops are your regular ashigaru, ready to fight for their lord in defence of the land.
Overall, I rather like these miniatures. They have a great level of detail to them and their massed ranks would make for an intimidating sight.
However, as has already been pointed out by others, it does look like Titan Forge are just reusing the same two sculpts over and over to fill out the ranks. I am also not too keen on the fact that we can't see their faces. Still, it does give the impression of the impersonal force you are facing.
Do you plan on backing Titan Forge when they bring this out? What miniatures are you hoping to see?

I will back it if they flesh out the units with more than 2 models per unit. I can accept the same pose as that will be good for the depiction of a trained unit standing at the ready and such. To make a military maneuver look good, they need to all have a similar stance such as front rank kneeled, second rank weapons at the ready. What I do wish to see is slight changes, such as ribbons fluttered differently, coat tails turned up or down and cords positioned slightly different. They may have the same military mandated uniform… Read more »
those weapons are a bit odd
they remind me more a nodachi then a naginata…
ok done a bit of research i’m convinced it’s a nagamaki
Nope, definitely a naginata. It’s a polearm with a single-edged curved blade at the end.
