It’s Time for Some Turtle Power!

The heroes in a half shell are back as the first trailer for Michael Bay's new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie hits our screens.
If you grew up in the 80s or 90s than you are probably familiar with this reptilian heroes. First appearing in comic form in 1984, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started off as a parody of the grim and gritty style a lot of comics were going for at the time. They truly rose to fame when they came to the TV screen in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1987 cartoon show, before going on to appear in a series of live action films.
This latest version, produced by Michael Bay, has made a lot of changes. For one the feel of the film, from this trailer at least, is far more in keeping with the series' darker roots, although probably without the same element of parody, which is a shame.
The background of the turtles has also changed. Now April O'Neil, played by Megan Fox, is being tied to them through the implication that her father helped to create them, in conjunction with none other than The Shredder himself.
So now both April and The Shredder are more closely linked to the Turtles, which should provide some interesting room for story developments. Quite where Master Splinter is going to fit into all this we don't know yet.
I'm rather cautious of this one. I love the Turtles, it's hard not to, and Michael Bay can make a decent popcorn movie from time to time (The Rock is a good example of an over-the-top action blockbuster). Still, I am worried about the Turtles loosing some of the character we all love them for. Just please, please, do not let this end up like Transformers!
What are your thoughts on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles returning to the cinema screen?
ummmm…..
I am liking the look of those bad ass turtles. Will be interesting seeing how this develops and what the action is like.
I stopped following it when I found out in the same week that it was Michael Bay directing and that for some reason he was making them be aliens instead of mutated turtles. Nice to see Mich is still goofy though… but seriously doubt this will be worth watching sadly. I’ll just go back and watch the first movie with my time instead.
at least the trailer makes it look like they may have ditched the whole Alien thing
You lost me at Bay 🙁
More specifically, it was a parody of Miller’s run on Daredevil. They even share the same origin story. I shan’t be watching this. Michael Bay is purveyor of terrible movies. I would pay him never to direct again.
The title is enough of a health warning.
Bay…check
Fox…check
supersize Turtles…check
/skip!
Lol, what’s everyone’s first thought when they decide to create genetically engineered heroes? Man-turtles, obviously! I hope there’s some explanation as to why they didn’t maybe try TMNLions, or perhaps TMNBears first… 😛
A bad Bay for turtles fans, shame as it could have been cool
Why does Michael Bay hate my childhood?
Why does Megan Fox keep getting work?
Why is Hollywood obsessed with the slow-mo effect?
And some people actually wonder why I rarely fork over money to go to the theater.
Where is the redhead reporter from my childhood?
One thing for those of you worried about Michael Bay. According to wikipedia (and we all know what a reliable source it is) he isn’t directing this, just producing.
Bad news, it’s being directed by Jonathan Liebsman, whose previous work includes such great classics as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Battle: Los Angeles and Wrath of the Titans
You brought my hopes up and then smashed them within a single post. Bravo sir. 🙂
Michael Bay produced that Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake so I can well believe that. His production company specialises in low rent reboots of existing franchises so TMNT would certainly fit the profile.
Im sorry but Megan Fox and super bad ass ninja turtles? I AM IN!
Whatever one might say about this at least they gave the turtles nostrils.
