The Mortarch Of Grief Unveiled For Age Of Sigmar’s Nighthaunt
June 14, 2018 by brennon
The team at Games Workshop are keeping the hype up for Age Of Sigmar 2nd Edition with the introduction of another of the Mortarchs to the Nighthaunt. Here we have the Mortarch Of Grief...
Shrouded like a banshee and flanked by her handmaidens, each spirits in of their own right, she is a terrifying aspect of dread. In life, her name was Lady Olynder and she was a corrupted soul. Now she floats across the battlefield sowing her dread and despair, and if that does not wrack your soul, then her powerful magics will.
The Nighthaunt is looking more and more tempting by the day and with amazing designs like this, you'd be hard-pressed not to pick up a few of these models just to paint them and give a new scheme a go.
We might just have a Sigmarite-styled surprise for you later today, but in the meantime tell us what you think of this new Mortarch?
Drop your thoughts below...

The head looks weird. It looks like a bedsheet ghost!
It would have looked a lot better with a ghostly female head or an empty helmet like the banshees.
Not working for me. After all the great undead they put out recently, they go back to things like this.
It’s the Corpse Bride!
I’m a fan of the cartoonishness of this.
The whole model looks fantastic, except the head. Kinda looks like they slaked on the head.
I like it, but I think it’d have looked better with legs (painted up to look ethereal).
One thought did come to me when I saw this – with this ghost range I think GW missed a trick that could have been novel. Instead of having large parts of the bodies ‘invisible’, they could have cast those parts in translucent plastic with the visible robes, accessories, etc in the regular plastic.
Translucent plastic always looks tacky to me, on minis anyway.
As someone who intends to build an undead army I have to agree that the head is the worse part of the model, hopefully, it is a multi-part kit and there are alternatives or it might be a good one to mod.
concept is cool, but I’d be tempted to sand the head down until it’s smooth and featureless, I reckon it could look creepier, bit more elegant that way. Also not sure about the boob, probably greenstuff the face-shroud to cover it as I don’t think it adds anything
That actually looks really good.
Love it, will be picking her up for sure.
Drop the KKK cloth mask and this would be a great looking model.
I would put blood spatter on the tails of her cloak.
I like the veiled head, gives her a corpse bride vibe. The shape of the skull through the veil is suitably creepy too.
This reminds me of a SW emperors guards.
This, uh, might not be received well in the states. It looks an awful lot like a KKK member.
Might want to redo that head entirely. Or maybe replace the white paint job with a different color entirely. White hoods in the USA = racism. Yes, I get that this is a ghost. But the first thing that came into my mind was KKK.
A little odd, seeing it in flesh might help, but I do like it. Transport issues aside its a solid peice. Can’t avoid thinking of this though – great range of different schemes ?:

I love it. Head and all.
The model is wearing an old style burial shroud, that is the reason for the fabric covering the skull. The fact that a shroud of this design also bears a resemblance to a Victorian era mourning veil as worn by widows is doubtless intentional on the part of GW as well. Indeed, if you were to paint her clothes in darker colours, and the veiled itself as black, you could definitely go for an Undead version of formal mourning garb, which is appropriate to her fluff as someone Nagash cursed with unbearable misery because she only pretended to show remorse… Read more »
love how tim burton style this looks 🙂 would fit right in with Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride 🙂
I think she looks spectacular. I admit, I disagree with a lot of people of the head, I think it looks great as it is. Keep her a little separate from the banshees. (Also spectacular sculpts.)

gods,
one of the worse models GW has ever made imo
Looks rather simple in design. Still nice to look at.
