With dropships, technicals and a range of Teminator models this could be a good game. I hear that the mechanics are very interesting. But, the limited range of models at the moment seems a bit underwhelming – certainly compared to the range of other excellent starter sets on the market.
It’s also expensive! Unless the mat and tokens are very good quality like FFG I’m not intrested.
Got a free sprue of the terminators at the UK Games Expo with Tabletop Gaming magazine and I wasn’t overly impressed. The models will pretty much clip together making it easier for new people but the quality of the miniatures is pretty bad compared to a lot of plastics these days.
are we looking at ’em4′ quality?
Have to agree, the figures are awful. Id chuck miniatures and use gw products!
I think that’s the main target, the board game market. For that they are perfectly serviceable.
Soon as my wife comes in….
After having a look at the contents deaddave is spot on – except I won’t use wacoshop minis, I might just wait and see if they release something better…
I love the terminator franchise. and I really have tried to get some enthusiasm going for this one, but no. Nothing.
Might it be that it seems to be a decade or two too late both thematically and by the look of the minis and contents on the pictures? Or have I become too jaded?
really not good value compared to the value of say mars attack…the terminators just look not scary/intimidating at all…maybe if they had been caste in titanium.
When will GW issue a cease & desist notice on this for its infringing their IP on this clear necron army being produced 🙂
I doubt GW would regard this lacklustre offering as a commercial threat.
But in fairness, if I made necrons out of matchsticks and tried selling them, they would still send me a c&d 😉
…you’ll get one for writing this!
GW regarded a childrens book as a commercial threat so Im not entirely sure about that
They regarded a children’s book to be an infringement of a trademark they owned. I’m not defending it, just getting the facts straight. It was very cheeky of them to apply for a trademark on the term ‘Space Marine’, but absolutely appalling that they were actually granted it. My understanding is that they don’t own copyright on Space Marines, but do have exclusive rights to using the term ‘Space Marine’ in the title of a book or game. Anyone can write a book about space marines if they want to, but only GW can but the phrase ‘Space Marine’ in… Read more »
Yes around that time I did quite a lot of reading on IP / TM stuff out of interest and although the details are now hazy one thing that became very clear is that it is a legal area ripe for abuse. I can’t help but wonder if in GWs case it was the lawyers themselves who decided that they needed to be very aggressive in order to get paid some hefty fees/ justify their salaries, with the inevitable consequence that GWs reputation was tarnished in the process. On a side note I am nearly done with HH book 3… Read more »
@solar , go for the one who’s lore interests you the most I’d say, but yes colour is a factor. You’re going to have to paint a lot of it. Personally though, I find the non-Astartes more interesting. Solar Auxilia and Mechanicum are both great looking armies so worth considering too.
@erastus I already have quite a huge collection of IG / AM so I wasn’t so keen on going that route again, plus for budget and space reasons!
Mechanicum definitely caught my fancy, and I think I will get some as a small contingent to add some variety…
I’ve always liked the idea of doing some Imperial Fists, but I’m wondering if I could do the colour scheme justice!
Having a TM on something is nothing to do with whether you own a given concept or idea. It’s just to do with avoiding marketplace confusion. If a movie called The Iron Man runs the risk of leading some people to believe it has something to with the Marvel character, then it infringes on their TM. If they don’t defend their TM, then they run the risk of losing it. The same applies to GW and Space Marine. They don’t need to have invented the concept of a Space Marine to have a TM on it. It just needs to… Read more »
@redben you’re right, you don’t need to have invented something to have TMed it. I personally think GW got a lot more criticism than they deserved on that one, but they did handle the situation poorly.
@solar I like the Imperial Fists but I just couldn’t bring myself to paint tanks bright yellow. Thankfully, heresy era Imperial Fists can have a two colour black/yellow scheme (foreshadowing the Black Templars) so one could paint them mostly black. I may add an Imperial Fist marine to my Strike Force.
GW has no IP or TR on the term ‘Space marine’ used in books or book titles. There was a book released on amazon, which tried GW to remove. The book was later put online again.

Marvel is making comic books, so ‘Iron Man’ could be protected, because of it.
I think it would be possible to use Iron Man in the title if it would be a full sentence. This would make it necessary to be checked case by case.
Wow. I don’t usually comment on price but this is more expensive than Imperial Assault.
Yeah i am put off by the price on this also, especially considering what is in the other big movie related game AvP for the same price. The ‘mat’ looks like a sheet of paper. There will obviously be a rubber mat in the offing but for the price I think the box is a little short of content.
Yes not the most bits in the box for the money…But….lovely rulebook, great rules and for somebody wanting this IP its spot on… also any wargamer with a selection or modern tanks, pickup trucks or cars can expand the army range.. and for the metal, alot of us may use robot from other games systems Etc.
But years if odds and ends for me can now be used for this system…. and raid the toyshops and pound shops for pickups and other items to do battle with…
Hope the spider tanks are coming out soon…
Too expensive. I’ll pick up some blisters (if they get made)
Does anyone have any news on when (of if!) this game will eventually be sold by independent stockists? Would much rather pay around £60 than £70, as much as I want this game! 🙂
Like others have said I am definitely not blown over by the quality of those minis
Out of interest, does anyone have a link to some close-up pics of the minis? I have one of the terminators but would love to see the resistance fighters up close if possible (doesn’t appear to be anything on the Warlord site)
I would like to get the game, but it is much to expensive for the stuff in it. Also the very few variations of the minis, the gaming board and tokens are not interesting at all.
Eventually 1-2 years later the price will be better.
