Studio McVey Continue New Previews With The Thraex!
April 7, 2014 by brennon
Studio McVey have unveiled more previews for upcoming miniatures and this time it's the dynamically dominating Thraex (the link may be broken at the moment, sorry!) which you can check out below.
Now that is one hell of a beast. From what we've been told this is a highly evolved creature made specifically for fighting in close quarters and you can tell that with the amount of bulk it is bringing to bear. I'm not entirely sure on the stance, I assume it's meant to be leaping forward to crush something, but it's a damn fine looking model all the same.
Above you can see it alongside a normal sized Vanguard trooper. I think you will probably end up needing those Gnosis Armoured troopers that we showed you on Saturday in order to deal with this creature.
Grab this chap and then grab some Vanguard with upgraded tech to take it on!
Will you be drooling over the McVey booth come Salute?

As cool as this fella’ looks (and by cool I mean terrifyingly brutal) his pose does make him look a lot like the world’s scariest dancer. 😀
Yeah, but what’s the plan? An expansion for Alabaster? New boxed game? Just sell these as single minis?
I’ve been hearing Alabaster wasn’t exactly a hit with the retailers… and mine is still sitting in the box so I can’t really comment.
It’s definitely much more Dreadfleet than Space Hulk 3rd ed. The rules need an overhaul and when you combine that with the warped boards and the ill will CMoN and SMcV generated in their handling of the KS then it hasn’t exactly been flying off the shelves. I hope they turn the situation around. I do think there’s a good game in there and Mike is a hard guy to root against.
Yes so is mine, but the mini might do well as a ‘nid alt, maybe a cc prime??
Arms of Sorrows (I think that is the title) – the second of the Sedition Wars series.
SMV have been teasing these at shows for almost a year now.
I agree with Stew – it would make a fantastic alternative Tyranid Prime, even if it is two arms short. That said, I hope that Sedition Wars takes off in its own right. There are simply oodles of potential there, and for all the problerms with the Alabaster boxed game, I still rather like the slightly Dead Space-esque vibe it has, even if it didn’t turn out to be the next Space Hulk.
Very nice always liked McVey work I’ll need to think how I to use it now.
Big nid with some cool flashy details.
The pose needs to be changed. The creature’s design and the execution of the sculpt, barring the strange foot placement, are too good to throw away.
