Strengthen The Shieldwall With New Vikings Miniatures
April 16, 2014 by brennon
Gripping Beast have added some more Vikings to their Shieldwall collection. They were available over the Salute weekend and of course on the webstore. See what you think of the Chubby Warlord and the Raiders...
There are plenty more Vikings in the Shieldwall collection for you to pick up and most of the sets are a series of individually crafted miniatures that would make your warband that bit different from everyone elses. The sculpting is generally top notch as well, it certainly looks that way from what we're seeing above.
Will you be heading into battle behind this Warlord?

The chubby warlord is someone many wargamers can identify with.
Meh. There’s far better out there. I would even put Wargames Factory’s Vikings above these, and at a fraction of the price.
Having worked with the Wargames Factory Vikings and Saxons I can say these are a lot better in terms of looks – also they aren’t a pain to put together with weird giraffe necks and ‘thumbs up’ hands all over the place.
Gripping Beast Plastic Vikings on the other hand – very nice.

I’ve put together two boxes of the WF Vikings and four of the Saxons and completely disagree. Just did a little trimming here and there, and swapped out some of the more fragile weapons (spears mostly) and they look great… with the exception of the running pose. There’s nothing for it. Paid $19.95 for 32 of them a few years back.
I like the Gripping Beast plastics, but will likely go with Mierce for the few heroes I still want to pick up.
They were just too odd looking for my taste. Even when I did a bit of cutting and slicing here and there they still looked odd when I’d put them together. Alternatively the Gripping Beast Plastic Vikings/Saxons were a lot more forgiving and went together nicely – could easily just make your entire warband out of them without needing any hero figures at all thanks to their little command sprue. When it came to the WF plastic set though I eventually just gave up and cut my losses with them. I hate working with metal but I gladly picked up… Read more »
I’d be happy to take those unfinished WF mini’s off your hands 🙂
I like my Gripping beast minis best of all however the shieldwall range has been a bit of a mixed bag. There have been some really nice models like the berserkers and most of the others have been good but there have been a few duff models that just don’t look right and have been consigned to my lead scrap heap.
Have to agree with Ben I don’t like WF figures. I’m only basing my opinion on what I have seen online or in magazines but the poses look wooden to me.
