Boost Or Start Stormcast Eternals With New Spearhead Set
January 9, 2024 by brennon
Games Workshop look to be gearing up for some changes in Warhammer Age Of Sigmar this year. A new Spearhead set has been announced for the Stormcast Eternals that gives you an entry point (or a boost!) when it comes to building an army in The Mortal Realms.

As per the description from Games Workshop, this provides you with a balanced fighting force right out of the box. That means it could be a good place to start when it comes to diving into Age Of Sigmar on the tabletop. If you're getting familiar feelings it might be because this reminds me a lot of the Combat Patrols that Games Workshop built to get people introduced to Warhammer 40,000.

This set comes with a Stormstrike Chariot which is pulled into battle by a pair of Gryph-Charges plus a set of both Vanquishers and Annihilators. Helping lead the way is a Knight-Vexillor who will make sure that your Stormcast Eternals keep on fighting despite the odds. Capping off the set is also the mighty Yndrasta, the Celestial Spear.

This brings together a lot of the different options from the initial Dominion boxed set for the current edition of Warhammer Age Of Sigmar but with a few tweaks here and there. I'm sure that folks will be happy to be able to get Yndrasta as part of a different set as well!
As mentioned above, it's interesting that we're seeing this Spearhead set pop up now. If Warhammer Age Of Sigmar's next edition gets a format where it's easy to dive in and start playing games without having to faff with army building, it could be a surefire way to get people involved with The Mortal Realms.
According to rumours, the new edition is coming later this year and will see Stormcast Eternals clashing with Skaven on the tabletop. Additionally, at the bottom of the article for this Spearhead set Games Workshop note that there will be Spearhead sets coming out for other factions. So, it's becoming more of a thing!
Could you be tempted by a Combat Patrol-like format for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar?

Nope. “Hero on Rock” is now “Heroine on Staircase”.
Age of Shitmar is a non-starter for me, as are fantasy space marines.
Try harder, Nomad Investments.
As we are moving closer to what is expected to be 4th Edition this Summer I guess we are leading into with these Combat Patrols. I think this is a way to get more people into the game at the lower price point hopefully.
I think this is generally a good idea but this box does repeat a lot of models we have seen in previous boxsets and magazines for stormcast so outside of new players it does not offer anything new.
It will be interesting to see what other factions they do.
