New Start Collecting Sets & Base Kits Coming To Age Of Sigmar
July 19, 2016 by brennon
More support for Age of Sigmar is coming this week for the end of July as Games Workshop have plans for new Start Collecting Sets as well as Basing Kits/Boxes which allow you to add sculpted bases to your growing Fantasy armies.
The new Start Collecting Sets are now adding to the newer army ranges out there. You can see them all HERE...
- The Flesh-Eater Court (Death)
- Ironjawz (Destruction)
- Khorne Bloodbound (Chaos)
- Stormcast Eternals (Order)
- Sylvaneth (Order)
While some have been disappointing by what's in the boxes they do appear to be another great bargain way to get into Age of Sigmar. The Khorne Bloodbound and the Ironjawz are leaping out at me as the best boxes of the bunch with some great looking miniatures within.
I reckon I might pick up the Stormcast Eternals box simply to get myself more units for Path To Glory.
Basing Kits/Bases
As well as the models they also have new Basing Sets which come with a range of different bases from 25mm and 35mm up to 60mm and 90mm for cavalry and monsters and then a larger kit specifically dealing with adding detail to BIG bases.
You can see all of the designs for these HERE.
Annoyingly these came out way past the point where I'd glued all my Silver Tower models onto their blank bases. I would have loved these for basing my Heroes and Monsters from that game.

What do you think of their offerings?

Hm, explains why the regular mixed base kits were out of stock with online retailers and not on the webstore. Im looking forward to these. Started playing the game last night and got a starter set earlier that day too.
Okay I typed that before I looked. The Ironjaws, Sylvaneth, Bloodbound… you know what screw it they are all good sets with amazing value and good models.
Also the basing kit is very impressive. A shame they didnt come out sooner for me to use with my Stormcast Eternals. I might save them for my Bloodbound…
Bases look very “flat” like the 40k style ones. If you look at the skulls on them, they don’t really protrude from the base much.
The “Start Collecting” sets are, as with the last load, awesome value. Especially when you consider additional discounts from retailers.
Its true they do not protrude, both the AoS ones from the pic and the 40k ones I saw at @irredeemable ‘s house.
I want a few of those Start Collecting sets…
Depending on how AoS develops with the Generals Handbook Khorne or Ironjawz will find their way to me…
I flikced through the handbook at Warhammer Cork last weekend, its a solid book with a lot of good stuff.
Can vouch for that too aye @mage – read it in my local store (who got it about three weeks ahead of release, not bad GW) and its a great book packed with stuff.
Not bad haha. Yeah I think this book is ‘just what the doctor ordered’.
I’m really liking what I see here, the figures and bases. I am considering the Khorne box now 😎
Me too. Well, not perhaps the Khorne box but I do like those bases. They’re not the most elaborate bases in the world but they’re interesting and because they’re quite flat and stable, they’re absolutely perfect for gaming use. As for the Khorne box, I’m going rob my brother of the Khorne stuff from his Age of Sigmar starter box and combine it with the Tzeentch stuff in the Silver Tower box. Bish Bosh, I got me a Chaos Warband. And the cool thing about that is, in all my years of being a wargamer I have never shown any… Read more »
Its a solid boxed set to be fair
Even though there weren’t new minis, I’m waiting on a potential Bonesplitterz box.
That might be a while considering they arent out til Saturday as a rerelease and there are only 3 plastic kits for them at the moment. The current sets are great value too though.
Over all those are solid start collecting boxes.
Some of these new boxes are around 40% off rrp! That’s great value. It’s sooooo tempting to pick one of these up but I still have to finish The Virulent Horde, King Vlagorescu’s Ghoulish Host, The Start collecting Nurgle box, Fyreslayers, Orruks and a few Stormcasts.
Not tempted, but I will admit, the price is better with these. Still, far from a ‘deal’ in my mind.
I like the older models, though.
@cpauls1 Those are great savings on models, how is it not a deal?
A few reasons @mage . First, there’s other models out there that are cheaper (I would say “and better” but that is subjective, and always sparks a sh*tstorm on a GW thread :-)), and second, since I don’t play GW games, I wouldn’t necessarily want all the models in the box.
I dont mean to sound argumentative, but if you dont play GW games or like the models intended for the games… then why post in the first place? Lol
