Star Wars Episode VII Concept Art Surfaces? [Spoilers!]
October 16, 2014 by brennon
A few websites including Flickering Myth have reported on the surfacing of some interesting artwork that looks to be the concept art for Star Wars: Episode VII. What do you make of it? Oh, and of course there might be spoilers in there somewhere...
As you can see there is quite a lot of sinister Sith stuff going on here with some creepy individual checking out the helmet of Darth Vader. You can also see some more of the Stormtroopers in some very awesome looking bulky armour.
It's all looking very old school Star Wars which is of course a good thing. The design looks spot on, if this really is a selection of concept art from the films, and it does get me a little bit excited. I've never been a very big Star Wars person but it's not hard to see why people are so interested in the return of so many characters as well as the introduction of a lot more too.
You can see more artwork over on the Flickering Myth website but let us know what you think.
Can you spot any neat clues in the art?
Loved the first three movies, or was that the last three movies… OK, the first three releases. Saw the fourth, was totally unimpressed, and didn’t bother with the franchise anymore after that.
The original trilogy had a more gritty feel. If this has some of that substance, I will enjoy it. Abrams Star Trek reboot has been good so I am optimistic.
Those look promising. Say what you want about Star Trek reboot with it’s all lens flare from Abrams but it does seem like he might be is right choice for Star Wars.
This set of images carefully edited to prevent nerdrage over this film’s Jar-Jar style atrocity 😉
Based on his Star Trek movies so far, I can’t wait to see what he does with Star Wars. Gimme some lens flare Abrams!!!
Depending on what you mean, but story/plot wise the Abrams movies have been disgusting. They’re full of idiotic plot holes and flaws which is hard to stomach if not for the sheer quality of the other aspects of the movies.
IF some good writers are on board then the Star Wars movies will hold. Hell, just get Lucas to write the plot and bar him from the directors chair/script and you’re on to a win.
why change now ?
Does the second image down imply that a woman jedi may be a main storyline character, even the protagonist? That is quite the welcome departure for main continuty Starwars movies that, while they have some interesting and capable female characters, never seemed to have any women jedi of note for some reason, nor any female lead characters.
Of course, there will be the angry, misogynistic contingent of the starwars fandom/general SF enthusiast community who will inevitably react negatively to any suggestion of a woman lead character, but people like that cannot be allowed to call the shots.
That reminds me of all the random internet hate I saw regarding FemShep from Mass Effect. The notion that a woman couldn’t possibly save* the galaxy and thus had no right appearing in the promotional material / advertising was just so painfully… backwards.
* If you have played ME3 then you will understand why there is an asterisk here.
I remember that weird pseudo-controversy. It never made any sense, and yet some people were so fixated on the notion that a Femshep character option somehow wasn’t ‘realistic’ or in some poorly explained fashion undermined the integrity of the fiction. It was downright sureal.
Ah yes but that be emotional disfunctional teenage and early twenties boys who’ve yet to reach the age of brain installation so we can safely ignore them.
“Of course, there will be the angry, misogynistic contingent of the starwars fandom/general SF enthusiast community who will inevitably react negatively to any suggestion of a woman lead character,”
Really? Every time I see someone like that it turns out to be an SJW false-flag or a troll.
“Of course, there will be the angry, misogynistic contingent of the starwars fandom/general SF enthusiast community who will inevitably react negatively to any suggestion of a woman lead character . . .”
You may be right, @vetruviangeek , but I hope not. Based on how popular Mara Jade became in the post RotJ expanded universe, let’s hope the audience is ready for a kickass female character . . . possibly even lead?
Here’s hoping you are right, @oriskany. It would certainly be an interesting new direction for the movies
As long as she’s tied up in a slave outfit like Princess Leia for the whole movie… just kidding. 😉
I was going to say . . . is this another of those Kingdom Death threads / flame wars? Oh no . . . 😀
Looks interesting
I’m showing caution with these films though, being a big Star Trek fan, I think the reboot films are both awful and good…..watch them as if all the characters are new then they are good entertainment.
See them as based on any of the original franchise then they are the worst thing ever.
Using Star Trek 2009 and Star Trek Into Darkness as examples of what JJ Abrams might do with Episode VII . . . Yes, these Star Trek reboots are great movies but terribly flawed. The whole alternate timelines and stubborn call-backs of Leonard Nimoy cameos were more than a little annoying. Also, the idea that Kirk goes straight from academy graduate to full-bird captain of a heavy cruiser (25 years in any real “navy”) is a little absurd. By the time they get to Star Trek Into Darkness they literally just made a list of fan-service references to Wrath of… Read more »
You’ve got that right a lot of inconstancies in the story’s especially in to darkness, good action films but.
I think Kirk may have got a field promotion because he has battle experience plus most of the other captains were dead.
Don’t do that to yourself, @zorg . . . don’t stand in front of screenplays this bad and try to defend them with apologist explanations. You deserve more in life . . . 😀 I don’t care if the whole Navy is blown up by an army of alien-catfish hybrids wielding neutron bombs that shoot out of their eyeballs . . . 24-year old boys are not commanders of ships of the line. Why can’t he be assigned to the Enterprise from another ship, like Picard was and Riker was and the original Kirk was in Star Trek TOS .… Read more »
Your correct ill get back in the foxhole.
All too true.
People with a bit of brain inside them will have noted the first reboot Trek movie WAS a Star Wars movie. It references all the star wars movies (including prequels), follows a Star Wars plot, and was basically a resume’ for Abrams to be on board for the new Star Wars movies.
The sinister guy and the helmet is very Hamlet-esque.
I like the “shot” of the wrecked TIE fighter. Very symbolic of the Empire going down but going down swinging.
When a movie is SO huge, even before it’s finished, so hyped, so…big, I don’t think anyone on the planet could “install” a female lead. Female leads work in chick flicks and cult classics. Not mainstream Hollywood mega-mega-mega movies like this. A female will be a strong number 2 or a love interest. As always, sadly predictable.
good catch @amphibiousmonster that shot is a total… “Alas poor Yorik, I knew him well.”
Or in this case “Alas poor Vader I can’t believe they f**ked up your memory by substituting whining boy Hayden Christensen for you in the redo of RoJ”
Should they have replaced Vader’s ghost with that vomitous little brat?
“Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!”
Thank God we found the original movies on DVD . . . so we can watch the original ghost, we can watch Han shoot first, etc etc.
Oh, and the stormtroopers armour is a little gussied up? But can the HIT anything?!?!?!
Let’s hope they can’t hit anything. Tradition is tradition, man! Stormtroopers always miss and Red Shirts always die. Deal with it! 😀
Hopefully JJ, will concentrate on action and keep the story to a minimum and the new film will be ace???
My hope is Vader will be back… as a ghost as in the last movie, or third released, final in order. All they need is an older experienced actor thats not Morgan Freeman to play the role. As for the desire for a lady to play the lead role, it be a change for good if the actress is skilled or could kill the franchise if she is horrid. For that reason it will not happen. Also I find most movies and shows that portray so called strong female roles are just conveying a man but swapping out the man… Read more »
